Maggot Cheese
I consider myself an adventurous eater, but I don't know about this "delicacy." In some places, cheese with live, writhing maggots living inside is quite the dish, fetching a premium. Some enjoy eating this cheese, living fly larvae inside and all!
What food from your local area or from around the world would be the one where you would just say "No!" |

I saw some speciality Italian cheese with maggots in. When you think about it the maggots must taste of cheese as that's all they've eaten

The worst thing I was presented with was embryonic chicken soup in Hong Kong.

I agree with Macstiltskin, I would never eat tripe again. Once I was invited to a friend's house for dinner and they were having tripe and salad. I took one bite of tripe and almost gagged and had to spit it out in my napkin. Needless to say I had a lot of salad for dinner and kidding from my guests!!!

Belut (or however you spell it) in the Phillipines... I know, some people love it and claim it's a delicacy but I couldn't.... the half-formed embryos of chickens? Allowed to mature just to the point where the bones are crunchy? YECHHHHH!!!!!

It's called "balut". I used to like it growing up, but haven't had it for a couple of decades now. I wonder if I can re-acquire the taste for it. |

Blood sausage, or Kishka, for all you good hunkies here (like us).
My MIL served it to me, once, and I ran into the bathroom to spit it out. Yuk! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kishka

This must be a guy thing, I actually had a visceral reaction while reading the initial post. Looks like this thread is one big gross-out session!

Menudo is very popular here. Nothing like soup made from cow's stomachs to start the day.

Interesting answers.
I've had balut, didn't mind it. Tripe I really like, especially in Vietnamese Pho. And I love blood pudding/blood sausage. There 's a German butcher nearby who adds rice and calls it Hurka (sp?). Pretty tasty, fried up as Martin suggested. |

They just opened up Mega Cavern for public tour here in Louisville. One of the sections of the cavern is experimenting with night crawlers to recycle paper etc. One of the tour guide has been eating night crawler to demonstrate worm’s high protein during the tour for the past few month (he does few tours a day = eats few night crawlers a day). He claims that his diabetes are now under control, blood pressure decreased significantly and lost lot of weight without changing any of eating, drinking and smoking habits.
