Tudor Pelagos FXD Red Bull Racing on wrist pics
Called by my local Tudor boutique last night & saw the new Pelagos FXD Red Bull Racing time only piece in person.
Tbh, I was a little underwhelmed - not really sure what I was expecting but was left feeling a little ‘meh!’ The watch itself is ‘ok’ but nothing that really got me overly excited. The flat blue dial, black case & black carbon insert in the bezel don’t really compliment each other. The biggest issue I had however was the strap. Felt cheap & that massive lump of velcro on show was a massive no no for me. The watch felt super light - was extremely comfortable but nothing about it really grabbed me like I thought or was hoping it would. This was obviously an exhibition only piece & not for sale. The SA advised they weren’t expecting any available to purchase for at least 2 months & the Chrono version for possibly 4 to 6 months. Was asked if I wanted to put my name down but politely declined. I love Tudor generally & have 2 pieces already but this one isn’t on my ‘to have list’ Just my opinion but trying to be honest. Maybe it’s a grower & my opinion may change over time but for now, it’s a pass from me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Meh indeed. Not a fan and don't feel the dial, bezel and hand compliment each other at all.
Thanks for the pics Sent from my SM-F936B using Tapatalk |

Yeah the Velcro really cheapens the look.

Love Tudor and the original FXD but this one has zero appeal to me.

I'm a longtime Tudor fan, but with the corporate branding on the rehaut taking the place of the practical seconds/minutes markers, and a $20 strap, it looks like a watch that should be a corporate premium/giveaway, not something sold in high-end stores.

Obviously you’re going for the hottest take in the negative zone but I just don’t understand the reference. |

So corporate giveaways would include the following with the corporate brand on the products: - umbrellas - pens - hats/caps (think baseball) - bags My sense of these watches are that they qualitatively somewhat similar to the Moonswatch. The Moonswatch however is a £230 item vs this Tudor is £3,000… |

I really like it however needs to slim down a little but probably still buy one
I don't think any Tudor products moving forward will be in crazy demand and in time will readily available |

I think it looks good. I love Tudor’s design language. Never been a fan of Red Bull though…

I am waiting to see one in person. This is an unusual position for me as I am usually all in with releases. Something about all the different factors that make up these watches do not really work for me. But we will see.

Agree with you on the massive lump of velcro. But, I kinda like the rest of it, TBH.
So, it's a definite maybe. |

I like it but I think I’d rather have the regular Pelagius FXD. I wish it had conventional lugs, it would look cool with some kind of blue Kevlar strap. Also not a fan of the branding. I Don mind that on the caseback but not on the dial.

I kinda like it, except for the velcro strap. Reminds me of the additional diving strap that Panerai includes with the submersible

How durable is the case? Can we expect composite cases to dry rot over time?

Tudor needs to step up their fabric strap game - they always look and feel thin and insubstantial, bordering on cheap.
Regardless, would like to see the three hander on a black strap. And without the co-branding... |

Looks like this one is DOA with the watch community.
I would expect this to be a discounted model on the secondary market shortly down the line. I do find it interesting, other than RM of course (NTTP), how far carbon cases have dropped in desirability over the last few years. |

The strip like on the OG FXD will be quite thick. Some strap makers will make some differing non-NATO style options. Which if/when I get the Chrono allocation, I’ll definitely be looking at. Most likely in a rubber backed blue sail cloth with red (or white) stitching

Is this Tudor’s version of a Moonswatch (albeit a more upmarket one)…?

Regarding the strap…I have dozens of nylon straps.
The fabric and construction used in the fxd straps is top notch, it is significantly more pleasant than the common nato strap. Similar to the difference of oem rubber straps to aftermarket. The Velcro however does not have very good adhesion. The professional MN model in addition to the Velcro came with an metal strap retainer to insure secure fastening. I also recently came across a new Velcro (anyone else)that is a super micro Velcro…this would be fantastic. It has all the grip but none of the typical abrasiveness. If I can find it I will add pic. It is quite amazing. As far as this new release, it’s fantastic, it adds a splash of color and uses innovative materials and partnerships. I applaud the out of the box thinking. These watches are akin to earlier comex models. Get ‘‘em while you can.

It looks great. Actually looks slimmer in the pics above. But I know it’s the same size. Maybe the color of the case is making it look slim

They learned nothing from Heuer in the 2010s. It’s a hard task to recover as a brand once your canvas is deemed for sale to its non core base.
Harrod’s at least has some mystique and was subtle plus it’s only available at the place. |
