For my 500th post - a new watch

This just kind of fell at the right time to line up with my 500th post here.

Based on availability of the new Pepsi GMT, I kind of gave up on that. So, I went slightly vintage and bought a 16710. It's a black dial, but I have already ordered a blue/red insert.

I think the watch needs a service, but so far I am happy with it. The bracelet is a little tight, so I also think I need another link, but otherwise, I think this will be a great addition to my collection.

Fantastic!! Congrats

A friend of mine has a NOS version just like yours. I've tried to get it off him many many times.

No dice lol

Just switched it out to a leather strap. May not be the best choice of a strap for it, but it works for me for now. I have a gray/black NATO I might try later, but this makes it much more comfortable to wear.

I think this is likely to be a very versatile watch - especially when I get the blue/red bezel on it.

Anyone got any suggestions for a great strap for it? Or do I keep it on the braclet and just get the extra link?

Nice watch - our local Rolex dealer prefers this strap. It looked good on the watch in his showroom: https://rubberb.com/en/rolex-watch-b...ected-color=16

This particular 16710 is an "A" serial, so from 1999-2000.

It's taken 6 years to get to 500, so that might be a while - 2029 or so??

Honestly, I am just about reaching the point where I am going to be set with Rolexes. In the last few years I have managed to buy just about everything I wanted. I guess there are always more references to acquire though.

I wouldn't mind a vintage Day-Date. Some of those aren't terribly outrageous, especially finding one on a strap - maybe an 1803 (unless someone wants to donate one to me). Either way, that's likely to be a while before I pull the trigger on that one.

Congrats! What a great way to commemorate your post count milestone. It looks great. You can pick up a link on the Bay. Can’t wait to see you transform it, into an old school Pepsi!

Thanks!

I wore it around for a bit this morning, but it just didn't feel right. Putting it on this strap has worked wonders for the comfort level. The thing that is sticking with me is when I look down at it I find it looks far to similar to my 16610 Submariner. I forget that this is a GMT and don't see the GMT hand unless I hold it at the right angle.

The bezel change is going to be very transoformative.

Congratulations! That should be the number one contender for the Perfect Watch in one of the other threads here.
