Im about to buy my first expensive watch and it will be a toss up between a Rolex and a lesser known premium brand. Panerai has got me thinking for its simplicity. From all that I can read on the web is most customers seem to be 40-45 + years of age. Im 29 and I certainly dont want to look like a 45+ year old. The GMT master IIC is what is on my mind right now. Can the Panerai be worn on suits? For some reason the strap makes me get the feeling that the watch is more suited for social occasions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I wear the Omega Moon manual winding watch presently.

Panerai for older people? No.

Panerais makes you look cool and bad ass irrespective of age. Other brands makes you sissy!

Anyway, Panerais are very versatile watch, both dress down to birthday suits and dress up all way to tuxedos. Leather straps are more classy with suits than bracelets.

..... get what you like and don't worry about what other people think about you, by the way I don't think that at 40-45 I'm old

Since when you need to be a certain age to wear a watch

......... my oldest son is 22 and loves to wear my 104

I blame on my grandfather. He gave me my first ever watch for my birthday. It was for my 5.6 or 7th birthday. It was a manual wind watch to boot! I still have it and it works fine today. Not a Panerai that watch obviously!

I always perceived Panerai as a younger man's watch. In fact, while I far prefer Rolex, I have always thought Rolex had more of a "distinguished" (in the just turning grey sense

) association as compared to Panerai. I am, by the way, in my thirties (and turning grey

) and this is simply an impression. I don't know for sure . . .

But now I shall move into the realm of fact: You better buy what you like without worrying about old or young, who likes or doesn't like, because ultimately you've got to wear it.

In my experience YOU will care 1,000 times more about the watch on your wrist than anyone else you will encounter. Most will not even notice or know enough to make a distinction between these timepieces.

For that range you can get 111, 112, 005, 000, 104 (if you like automatic).

It is not a cheap brand by any means, maybe that's why you think that more established folks wear them, but no a lot of young people I know own or wish they can own one.

i would follow TR's and Chris's advice... 111,000,104 are perfect starters...

Anybody know any grey market reputed sellers who ship worldwide? Im based in the UAE and the AD will not part without discounts.

Hi Mate.. yes, there a are a lot who do.. i live in QATAR and i know what do you mean, they are not giving any discounts. I know someone on this forum too who lives in Qatar wanting to sell a 104 and another wants to sell a 213.. they are both second hand but in excellent condition if intrested send me a PM and i will put u in touch..

Panerai is definitely not an ''Old People's'' watch. I have only seen a few in person, and it has been a mix of 30's and a more mature crowd. I would love to have one though, and I'm 28.
