Time regulation help?

My new "kermit" appears to have gained about 10 seconds since I set it last Monday; well within accepted parameters, I'm sure.

I read somewhere that one could "help" in the regulation of a self-winding watch by the orientation he placed the watch on the bed stand overnight. For example, crown down would put a slowing tendency on the watch to offset a slightly fast watch (my particular case...) whereas crown up would do the opposite.

Anybody heard of this or is it simply an "old wives tale"?

I normally don't take my watch off, even for sleeping, but If this nightstand remedy is valid, I may start doing it.

No, it is not a wives tale...... It is simple physics...

Rolex used to put a small card in the box to show customers how to "regulate" their watch themselves by a second or two each evening.. It was very useful..

Today, however, with high speed movements and stronger mainsprings, coupled with larger balance wheels (more mass) and more stable and slippery synthetic oils and greases, the amount of change you could expect is difficult to measure..

So, they no longer include the positional regulation cards...

But you can be assured... The laws of physics have not changed, so you may not be able to see the small changes overnight, they will occur over the long run..

I've already decided this is my "ultimate" position. But, If nightstand orientation does something positive for me, why not?

You are correct, of course, whatever makes you happy. Just i have seen folks that go crazy over seconds. On another forum some idiot said he wanted to commit suicide over his watch being off by 2 minutes a year. Crazy right????

Is my recollection of the resting position, i.e., crown up to slow down watch, crown down to speed up, correct?
