Royal Oak 37mm Blue vs Grey
Have the opportunity to pick up a blue or grey 37mm RO and wondering for long-term wearers how do the colors compare? I slightly lean towards the grey because I see so few grey dial watches and just seems more unique but know the blue is a classic. Does the grey wind up blending in too much with the rest of the watch or is it fairly readable out? Have seen the 37 grey in person but only a 41 in blue. But would appreciate folks' thoughts!

All I can add is that I find the blue looks smaller than the grey which may or may not be a concern for you.

Can’t emphasize this enough. The dial is undersized on the 37mm, and the grey dial helps correct/hide that visually.

Personally. I'd go grey but I know there are lot of people out there who love the grey. Always go with your gut - sounds like you already know!!

Also depends I think on what colours you like to dress with - I wear darker shades and feel that the grey suited me better. Blue is beautiful, can't go wrong with either!

All very useful! For context other blue watches I'm looking at are Breguet 7337 or 7137. Don't really seem to see many other grey watches that catch my eye.

Tried on the grey in the store. I had some issue with legibility of the hands against the dial. I registered interest in the dark or light blue dials for that reason.

Definitely the grey. The grey gives it a nice monochromatic look.

Maybe I can help with some photos.
The blue is a 15550, the grey a 15450 |

I was given the choice a few years ago of the blue or ruthenium grey 15500, went with the grey, it’s mercurial and far more special IMO. Go grey and you won’t regret it.

My 2c:
If it’s going to be your one-and-done Royal Oak, go classic blue dial If you’re looking to collect, full monochrome grey/SS is truly something else |

Having looked at both in person I feel that the way you want to wear it / time of day also may play into the decision.
The blue seems to absolutely pop in sunlight but in shade and blue light it’s more muted / blue green in feel…… the grey seems to wash out dark silver in hard sunlight but in muted light or in the evening it gets more contrast and a darker grey color that I really like Same session at AP house on the balcony, mid day…. Full sun and shade I also agree that the blue wears / looks larger on wrist than the blue dial from what I can tell. With my 7 inch wrist that’s really playing into my preference for the grey ..Explorer & Spring Diver - I’m just here for the photos.. |

Royal Oak 37mm Blue vs Grey
Quote:
Sorry…. Rushed the text and now can’t edit the mistakes Summary Blue shines in day light / full sun but looks smaller on wrist due to dial separating from case Grey is a dark silver in full sunlight with washed out / harder to read handset but looks magnificent in the shade or at night with a darker grey color . Grey dial blends with case to present larger on wrist ..Explorer & Spring Diver - I’m just here for the photos.. |

MAT4150 - curious which color did you end up going with? I'm currently in the middle of the blue vs grey debate myself....I have a YM with the blue dial which I love, so not sure if I should venture towards the grey - or stick with the color(s) I like. Just wondering where you ended up (and if you've got any buyers remorse on the color choice : ).

Is this a reasonable request from the AD as a first watch with no purchase history? I have been on the waitlist for over 2 years at the Atlanta AD for a 37mm RO due to wrist size, they said some people wait 4 years even for the 37mm versions...

I have the grey dial and honestly, its fire. I do have a jumbo with blue dial though so didnt need two from the same company. REALLY love the 37 though, its a great vintage gentleman's size.

There is no bad choice. I've tried on both and ended up choosing the blue. But I'd be happy with either. The grey also looks particularly good on the 38mm chrono.

Go with the one you love to see on your wrist. In general blue always commands higher price in secondary market.

I like grey over blue unless it is a Jumbo (no matter which, being aware that the blue of the Jumbos changed somewhat over time).

If your focus is on value, go blue. Aesthetic wise, go grey. It's totally another level to look at.
