Good news.

Starting price of the base model. 7999 usd, then some special models at 10-15k usd.

Am I doing this right? It's crazy how a brand that has been gone for so long can jump in out of nowhere and set such prices. No way they will linger around the 3-5k mark because that's for brands like Longines etc.

What I heard was that Breitling was going to make UG their top tier brand. (Which makes sense to me, I think it is easier to make a "new" brand top tier than trying to move their existing brand up the ladder.)

Then leave Breitling at mid tier.

And are planning on buying another brand to sell a lower tier watch. (A brand known mostly for chronographs.)

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Was asked not to say.
But will say that it is similar to UG. Mostly known for their vintage watches. Mostly known for chronographs.

Big fan of UG, I think this is good news. UG back in the day was a competitor to Rolex/Omega etc etc, so I think they will price in that ball park.

Universal Geneve - Relaunch !!

Seems at first glance to be the absolute best scenario for the brand to be brought back. Georges + Fred and the team at Breitling did such a good job refreshing Breitling if you’re into vintage re-editions. If the playbook is the same there’s so many cool pieces in the UG catalogue they are going to be hard to pass up.

Interesting to see whether they can relaunch the brand. It was an extremely venerable company, the reference site has a great photo of Harry Truman at the Potsdam conference wearing a Tri-Compax.
Wish I could see the face; a while ago I acquired a rare reference 12267, made between 1946-49. I've never seen the exact reference for sale, it has the cleanest of what is a family of very crowded faces!

Zenith is not a lower tier watch, it will never be.
I put them above Breitling actually.

UG will have to work some years to take the crown again, there is a huge potential in it.
Everything points in that direction

It will be marketing and hype to start with followed with extreme pricing and then just a footnote for most.

Under Breitlng? That is interesting.

Both brands could use an anchor piece that is not a chronograph.

Well, UG has the Polerouter, which is the first Gerald Genta design.
So, I would say that is a pretty good anchor piece.

It’s an interesting watch and could be.
Though they haven’t produced in a quite a while, the next steps with the piece may or may not help to establish it?
Certainly not conclusive but I am rooting for them.

They do look nice though the darker dials (in the photos) appear illegible to me?

The silver dial is compelling.
