Can ya'll help me figure out what's going on with this VC overseas gen 1?
I've been looking at this watch and discussing buying it. The seller insists it's a VC 42040 37mm. To me, this looks like a 42050/52, the 35mm version. There is no lume plot by 3, which is the tell to me.
But, the seller has sent me pictures with the caseback open and a movement marked 42040 in the watch, and pictures of the watch being measured are inconclusive because the measurements are so close. I'm wondering if there's a chance this is actually a 37mm case. Everything in my body says it's 35, but the engraving on the movement is throwing me off. Has anyone here ever seen a 37mm without a lume plot at 3? Is the engraving on the movement conclusive? I want to call Vacheron to ask about this, but trying to explain it all without holding the watch feels like an effort in futility dealing with a large corporation. Pics attached. |

If you have ANY doubt, why even consider buying it? Why even take the risk?

That’s why I’m asking you guys and also on a subway up to the VC store to ask them directly. I’m 99% not buying, but this is also an opportunity for me to better understand a model of watch I love. I’m genuinely curious if anything like this actually exists, whether I’m buying or not.

Official answer from VC is that it’s a 37 with a lume plot fallen off and that all models have 42040 on their ring, no matter the size

It looks 35mm to me. You can see in the first pic how he adds 1mm on the left by shifting the ruler. And the measurement should stop at the very edge of the case before the crown. It seems to stop at 36mm, but minus that 1mm it nets to 35mm. That's what my eyes are telling me. The other pics don't really convince me otherwise.
Also consider whether VC's measurements are done side to side (aligned with the crown, as performed by the seller) or whether VC measures diagonally (e.g., from immediately above the chrono pusher), which could add 1-2 mm given the slightly out of round case. |

Also, I'd trust my own eyes and measurements more than I'd trust some employee who is telling me something that doesn't seem to comport to an objective measurement. But who to trust is entirely up to you, of course. |

Id pass as even if its 37 mm its missing the lume plot which will require you to service the watch which wont be cheap
