60th Birthday

I am 60 this year and my wife has been asking what do you really want ?

To be fair , I don't really want or need anything. But if it come along id buy a TI YM42 , but they just don't seem to be around I have seen stock photos of them allegedly available and a handful that appear genuine for sale at 3 x list, The Le Mans is on my radar but both don't seem that available in the UK ADs.

I notice the LM has halved in asking price on the grey market sites and more are showing up but I'm still disappointed how they go to big buyers who then sell them. I really think if my AD did get one id be in with a fair chance of buying one . I also think going in asking for a Ti YM seems greedy.

My Father would say expect nothing and you won't be disappointed lol

After all these years of life. 60?. You should know the phrase. "if you don't ask for something you will not get something" (sorry for my pure English lol - but you get it)

Go to the AD and ask for one of those watches and tell them that it is for you 60th birthday. Even better - send your wife.

What HE said. Sending the wife to ask for the YM for your 60th BD is a great idea. It’s worth a try.

Good suggestions. Here's to hoping your AD makes some magic happen.

I hope Rolex ADs do not get us to the point where we are afraid to even ask for a watch! Ask for it, the results may surprise you.

I'll wager many first time people who had a poor experience trying to buy a Rolex will think twice!
The sooner you can actually put a deposit down and get most of the range with a reasonable timeframe, the better

Agree with having your wife ask the AD for what you really want.

In a similar boat here, with a landmark birthday coming soon!. But after being on 4 AD's "list" for some time, for what would be the watch that I really really want; will likely pull the trigger with a grey offering, on my coveted present to myself.

Everyone is different, but after working very hard for all my life, our time on this earth is too short, to not treat yourself with something special if you can afford it.

Love the ti YM but I don't think us mere mortals will see one at a decent price for 4-5 years.

In the meantime, would a ti Pelagos scratch the itch???

From personal experience, I recently received a Pelagos FXD and am surprised at just how much satisfaction it has given me. Now I question whether I would spend the money on a YM if it was even offered at list.

I know the feeling...at 60, it does take quite a bit to blow up the old skirt, metaphorically speaking, of course.

So...what's a watch enthusiast to do? Well, if you're of a mind to, drop in and discuss what you've told us with your local AD, and then see what happens. Or...do nothing and just enjoy what you have.

Or...take the amount of money it would take to score these watches and blow it in some completely irresponsible manner. You are going to be 60, after all.

Good morning my friend … that’s for the laugh

There’s a bit of truth to most jokes and I’m closing in on this milestone myself. I’ll have to take your wisdom at face value

+1 on the idea of sending your wife.

And it's not "greedy" to ask for a plain brushed Ti watch. Not your fault that Rolex only made a dozen and how it's hyped to the moon!
