Growing trend: Date set too high in date wheel
I’ve been seeing this more and more where a Rolex will have a date that sits way too high up in the window and quite frankly it just looks silly and screams lazy QC.
I used to think it was something that they perhaps intentionally did to make it easier to see the date at a glance, but if that was the case I don’t think i’d also see so many Rolex’s with centered dates. In my experience l, it seems to be more common on modern DJ,DD,EXP 2 and SD. Honestly, I don’t think this is me being overly picky. It’s beneficial for enthusiasts to call out things that bother them especially when it comes to something that is magnified on the dial. There is no reason why my $650 PRX should have a centered date wheel yet my DD40 is just at the point where it is about to cut into the font. I’ve gotten better at not sweating the small stuff but any blemish you can see with the naked eye on a luxury watch is fair game to be called out imo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Look a plain and simple fact the date wheel cannot move, but when the put the dial on the movement top plate there is a very very tiny w bit of lateral movement both ways But many of today's Rolex love to examine their watches for very very miniscule what they call faults,I sometimes wonder why these people buy Rolex watches perhaps to moan about them.

It isn’t moaning. When you pay an extreme premium for a quality product you should respect quality in return. Especially when brands that cost orders of magnitude less can get it right. Out of the 8 Rolex’s i’ve bought in the last 18 months only 3 have had minor issues like dial or date defects you can see with the naked eye. The rest were fine so I didn’t say anything. Some people are such hyper rolex fan boys that they see it as blasphemous to criticize them in any way and prefer to live in a state of cognitive dissonance. Imo this way of thinking gives Rolex owners a bad name and does a disservice to the brand to not hold them accountable for things they get wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So then they can put the dial on top of the movement and if it moved laterally too much during application then put it on again until the date is centered better. It isn’t hard to see as it’s literally under magnification and it isn’t nitpicking especially on a PM Rolex. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

To be honest all I see is you taking pictures at an angle that puts the date towards the top of the cyclops.

It’s not but I wish it was. Lots of the photos aren’t mine, but you can see the amount of white remaining above the date is almost non existent while below there is still plenty. It is apparently at all angles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Maybe all the photos aren’t yours but all the angles in the photos you presented are the same. Maybe show some photos at different angles to better illustrate your point.

All those photos are taken with tilted angle, with six further from the lens than the twelve. You might just be seeing parallax error, in combination with the magnifier distortion.

No way that is from an illusion. When you are able to see the entire date wheel and notice there is just no white left on top of date yet plenty under it is because of an alignment issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What are you talking about? There is 0 reason why you shouldn’t be able to see the additional white part of the date wheel when the entire window is visibile. Just took this with the watch pointed as down as possible right before the top portion of the date window disappears and you can clearly see the additional white part of the date wheel above the 22 where as with the pave DD there is 0. Perhaps the date is aligned as it is because most people read the date on an angle and that makes it most readable from that usual angle with the cyclops. I only suggest this because all your photos seem to show the same alignment.

My friend, you have zero understanding of the factors involved. That’s not an insult, as you simply have not studied the issue. Now, if you want to continue to live in ignorance and perpetuate a generalized theory of quality control then perhaps an insult would be appropriate. Your decision. |
