Vastly Different Wearing Experience
Was wondering how people feel when going from (for example) a large DSSD to a 12 series submariner. The same would hold true in going to a GMTII, Datejust, etc.
It isnt a matter of good or bad for me but just interesting. I wore my brand new DSSD JC for a solid week straight after acquiring it and then tossed on my 12 series LV sub. I was wowed at the difference. Again, I love both. The cyclops-enhanced date window seemed HUGE to me afterwards and the thickness of the sub felt like a pancake. Lol Does anyone else care to share their experience or thoughts on two vastly different-wearing watches in a collection? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Speaking for myself never felt any difference no matter what watch I was wearing from very early vintage watches to modern Rolex watches.

Changing my DSSD for my 36DD makes the DD look small. This lasts an hour and than it feels like perfection.
They all wear different but by far my best wearing experience is my 16622 YM with its soft Daytona styled case on a jubilee

I occasionally rotate, every other day, a sub and a SD43. I love the contrast of the bulk and heft of the SD43 with the "pancake" and lightness of the sub. I also enjoy the startling difference between the cyclops and the simplicity of the symmetrical and simple watch face of the sub. The rotation really makes me appreciate each for what it is.

DSSD puts a smile on my face every time I put it on, which isn't that often, I wear my Pelagos most days. It's got that heft, shine, and the domed crystal is very special. Submariner felt downright pedestrian when it was my "nice" watch, felt like a downgrade from the 42mm daily wear Pelagos so it didn't work out for my rotation.
Going the other way around, the Pelagos feels like I'm putting a camouflage watch on after the DeepSea. Light, thin (ETA version) and unassuming. I like the contrast of the two. |

I used to have a DBlue and a 47mm PAM. I always found that it took a minute or two to adjust to wearing a 40mm watch.

I tend to like my watches to be within a similar-ish size - i.e. between 39 and 42mm - but even then the case shape makes a difference to the wearing experience and perceived size. I always notice the difference for a few hours when I swap between watches of different sizes, but it's literally just that - a few hours.

Agreed with posts above. After a short mental adustment, I can enjoy a YM40 just as much as a Breitling Seawolf 45mm, or a PO2500 XL.

I’ve been up to 42mm a few times. Last year I bought a 36mm DD and I’m loving the size. I’m waiting on a silver dial OP36…

I recently picked up my first non Rolex piece, a Piaget Pols S ADLC.
I find it wears differently the Rolexes, not in a bad way at all, but just different. It is on a rubber strap with deployant so the weight against SS is less. It took a few days of getting used to it.

My two current Rolex are DSSD JC and 11 Series LVC. The Deep Sea is my daily. Just love everything about it. I open the Hulk box and look at it but can not get over the size difference. I keep hoping it will grow on me because I love everything else about it. But for now it stays in the box. I've never sold any watch and don't see that happening.

I go back and forth between my DSSD (daily) and my 36mm Explorer (gym) multiple times a week. The transition is seamless, the differences are enjoyable, the extremes are fun. Different watches for different purposes, not that much different than changing shoes.
No big deal. |
