Decision - Sub vs Speedmaster Pro
Just a little question for a Friday evening.
I have just achieved a personal goal in my career and was looking at adding a new timepiece to my collection as a gift to myself. I am Debating between the 124060 or a new Sapphire sandwich Omega Speedmaster Pro. I have a 116600 which I do not seem to wear that much anymore due to the heft (and maybe my age) and I have a small but nice collection so this would be a watch to be worn in rotation (would love it to be my 'one and only' but alas it never seems to be that way). |

Well, I have both, and would never get rid of either. But I'd choose the Sub if I could only have one.

I exchanged sub for SD4K and I don’t think it wears unwieldy. In fact, I think it wears same as Sub, but that’s just me.
I have a vintage Speedmaster and an early 90s Speedmaster, which was my first nice watch ever, so I won’t sell that one. Hard to say for myself because Speedmaster and Sub were both watches that I coveted while growing up. Twist my arm and I’m going to say sub would be my choice over Speedmaster. I would even go so far to say that I probably only need two watches: submariner (or SD) and a Speedmaster and I would be happy Very close. |

Between the two, Both. You already have a Sea Dweller, sell that and buy a Sub and then the Speedmaster.

Agree with this. Any Rolex is a nice Rolex imo, but you're not wearing the Sea Dweller, and the Sub and Speedy are each icons in their own right.

The Speedmaster didn’t work for me. Would pick Submariner but preferably with some color

I would get rid of the SD and add the sub date personally. Like the idea of the no date and have owned it but date function so useful to me.

Generally I’d say Submariner but in this case since you already have a diver, I’d take the chrono.
FWIW the 124060 will wear as bulky as the Dweller |

If you´re going to buy a Speedmaster (and why not? You already have a diver!) then do have a look, if you can, at the hesalite version as well. A couple of years ago I was able to compare the sapphire Speedmaster side by side with the hesalite version at an Omega boutique. For me no question...the hesalite version just had more "charm", and is historically accurate, if that matters. I found the sapphire sandwich Speedmaster rather cold, and thought the sapphire caseback rather ridiculous on such a watch. I wouldn´t need or want it. Just my 2¢ here, buy whatever sings to you!

Depends what else you have, but when in doubt, go Rolex over Omega.

I have both, and sub wins hands down for me.
I do think they make a great pair, so if you’re finding your other watch too big, trade that in for a sub and add the Speedy. |

Thanks for the comments for far all. Lots of really valid points. I must add that I also own a 16610LV that I would never sell as it means the world to me.

Submariner. It's not even close.

You already have a Sub. Why is this even a debate?
Get the chrono, go wild with straps. Done. Oh, and get the hesalite version.

Based on what you already have I’d take the Omega to provide a little variety.
That said, perhaps you prefer divers and want your collection to be focused on such models and there’s nothing wrong with that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have both a Sub and Speedmaster, as well. I like the Sub more overall, but to be completely honest, I think the Speedy is more comfortable to wear. Both great watches, though, so you can't go wrong.

Having two subs is not a really a collection, more like growing inventory in divers.
Ok if you are someone who goes diving...I have always wondered if real divers needed a date feature. If I were to get a Sub, it would be a ND. Speedmaster Moonwatch is great watch and the 3861 is sort of large at 42mm. I agree in a side by side comparison, the Hesalite looks better, however the sapphire version has the nicer dial and exhibition back. If you can find a Speedmaster 321 Ed White, that is the watch to get. It has the original lemania movement that went to the moon, has a ceramic bezel, domed sapphire crystal, and is only 39mm. While hard to get, the EW at retail is not that much more than a Sub.

I would get neither ... An Omega SeaMaster 300M would be my choice. SubMariner is a great heritage feel watch and obviously so is the speedy , but if I personally tried those two on and then the black faced 300M , I would almost certainly grab the latter.

I hade the 3861 hesalite version, it did not work out for me. One of those 'looks awesome on photos and macros but meh in real life' watches. Awesome story surrounding it though.
Sub on the other hand... I got it (124060) and it is not going anywhere. :) |

Two different types of watch. I'd aim to have both.

Both can (and should) be had in a collection in my opinion, but if I had to pick one, I’d take the sub without question.

+1 for Sub. Omega doesn't have the same luxury vibe.
