Deep Dive into the “5 digit” series

I didn’t think I’d be back this soon after the purchase of my DJ 41 Wimbledon in June I stumbled upon a beautiful example of a 16600 Sea Dweller while on a trip to Toronto. Ended up walking away with this beauty. My first 5 digit Rolex purchase ever.

Recently added a 14060M Sub and a 16570 ExpII from 1999-2000 because I got taken in by the old school tool watch design aesthetics with the lug and bracelet holes. When I got into Rolex, I only wanted the 6 digits with the more refined, finished look. There is something special about these older Rolex watches and gives me a change of pace regarding my more modern pieces. I may be going through a phase, but at this moment, I'm not sure I couldn't be swayed into selling my 6's and go all in with 5's. Enjoy.

I think the 16600 is the perfect Rolex! Love it! Congrats!

I miss mine. One day I’ll add one back. 5 digits are the best!

My favourite Rolex the 16600 SD mine had a very hard life with well over 600 hours underwater working as a dive guide PADI instructor. Now almost 25 years old still looking good and been serviced and polished by various RSC world wide. Its a great watch wear yours in good health for many years to come.

Great choice! Congrats!
Although I don't own it any longer, I have a lot of great memories with that reference.

Congrats on the SD!! Great watch. Had one along with a 14060M but let it go, keeping the sub. Gave it to my son in law recently so I'll still get to appreciate it when I visit.

Damn those look good! Yep, I agree. Peak Rolex for the Professional Models in terms of appearance. I will allow that the dive extension was terrible. Much prefer the slim and comfortable clasp though with a textured and brushed finish that hides all the damage. And overall prefer the looks.

Great find! Huge love for the 5 digits. While I do have (and love) my 6 digit references--there is just something lost in translation from the Rolexes of old.

Very underappreciated watch - Love mine and will never sell it!

The additional heft over a Sub, and the lack of cyclops (YMMV), make it the ideal partner, for me!

Totally underrated! They're great buying! For me it's that proud crystal with the thicker gasket :D
