Would you trade Pepsi/Sub for AP 15550ST?

Long time Rolex enthusiast but always craving for an AP. Being smaller wrist I found a mint condition AP RO 15550ST 37 mm asking for $33K.
I am thinking of trading my mint Sub no date and brand new BLRO for the AP. What would you do?

i would do it, just make sure the AP is actually mint and hasn't been polished for retail

i have a 15450 so i'm biased but i just feel like it's a much more special watch than those 2, and if one of those is a safe queen you should trade it for something you want to wear. love mine and will never sell it

I would do it if it’s just a value proposition. The current Price to get out of both of these watches is below 33,000.

But, from an enthusiast perspective, I would look at the rest of my collection first. I have all three of these watches at the same time. I don’t think my AP can replace the place my GMT or sub takes. However, I can definitely replace datejust or OP in my collection.

Then, between the no date and the GMT, I would probably get rid of the no date. Because the GMT is essentially a submariner date with a different bezel and an extra hand. If I really wanted a node submariner, I’d probably go back to a 5513 and before.

Also, functionally, both my submariner, and my GMT are beaters. I really don’t think this AP can take much.

Lately I rarely wearing all my watches and thinking of narrowing down to 2 favorite watches. I have a new white dial 116520 that I haven’t worn since new. But I want something else beside Rolex hence this AP fit the bill because it’s an AP.
Sub is my daily beater and Pepsi just sat in the safe. However, I am looking to add at least $4K more for the trade

$4k for the trade - sounds about right.

Sure. Just want to sell 2 watches you don’t wear to get something you want, that’s very logical.

If you paid MSRP for these then I would. Question is will you be happy with getting rid of 2 watches and having that one.

I would not do that trade. I have the BLRO and it is my favorite SS watch. I recently sold my 15450. I did really like the AP but wasn't getting much wrist time so moved on. If you have the funds, sell the Sub and get the AP

I would not do it. I previously owned a 15300 which I sold 10 years ago. I now wish I would have kept it but I sold it because it was quite the scratch magnet and I was not in love with it.

I just can’t come to grips giving up those two classic Rolexes for one AP.

It all depends on the wrist size tbh. I am at 6.4inches and for me 37mm AP is too small, 41mm is too large, while 39mm is too expensive :D

That is why I went for a PM OF Daytona and loving it so far. OF and ceramic bezel are way more practical than AP and overall watch feels at least equally special to SS AP RO.

No way would I do that trade; two iconic Rolexes for one Royal Oak just doesn't make sense to me. I think you'll regret losing the BLRO.

I had the larger 15400 AP and after a year or so it didn’t feel right to me. I sold the AP for a bit more than I paid. Was shocked that 3-4 years later they were going for 3-4 times what I paid new. I prefer the Sub and BLRO.

Easily yes. I sold my Pepsi on jubilee to fund my 26240st blue dial.

Once you go ap…. It’s hard to go back

Would you trade Pepsi/Sub for AP 15550ST?

What color 15550?

I daily a 124270 Explorer and own a grey dial 15550. I think the Explorer makes for a much better daily wear watch, most Rolex do IMO because they still look good with a life time of wear.
The finishing and brush work on the RO is pretty special and I wouldn’t want to beat on it in the same way.

Id keep a Rolex for daily wear and add AP if I was you.
That Pepsi would be a strong contender but the modern sun is magnificent.

..Explorer, Spring Diver & APRO..

Whilst I’m not a fan of the BRLO, I don’t think I’d do that trade.
