Maybe a little earlier as I have seen some late 70s Datejusts listed that had quickset including one with a 5 million serial number from about 1977.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know how you set the date on a non-quickset model? Do you have to keep rotating the hour hand around, 2 revolutions to change it 1 day?

My mom has a non-quickset LDJ from 1943! Yes, you have to crank it until the date turns every midnight

As you can imagine, she keeps it in an Orbita when not on her wrist.

Thanks for the info Sakuraba, that does sound like a lot of work to set the date on a non-quickset watch.

Yes you must go around and around till you get the date right, but its worth it.
Here's a pic of mine from the early 50's and its one of the first Datejust made.
