Wow , really unfortunate for a brand that makes amazing watches. It seems there's a disconnect between the manufacturing and after sales.

Are you referring to Alkis or the other Lange center in the US? I've always used Alkis and agree he is excellent. Though I imagine it's only a matter of time before he retires, and I'm interested in hearing more about the other Lange-approved watchmakers in the US.

Never had a problem in the US. Had a Datograph serviced in about half the time estimated. I’ve called the service center on several occasions to purchase straps. They actually sent me one for free the first time I called.

Obviously ALS should be at a whole different level but Omega accuses me of dropping/ slamming the watch into things every time I have a in warranty claim. After back and forth I have never actually had a claim denied but I am completely done with them. Blancpain on the other hand do all kinds of nice extras for free everytime including an offer for complimentary polish, adding a new strap, fixing other damage caused by me for free.

That’s good to hear as sooner or later my Blancpain will probably be heading in. What did you do to damage yours?

Thanks

I once fell and scratched the folding clasp real bad, to the point it was slightly deformed. The fall itself wasn’t bad on the watch to cause any issues (it was probably 3 years after the fall that I had it serviced) and when I got it back from regular watch servicing, it came with a brand new clasp with no extra charge.

Wow that’s incredible. I can also speak very highly of Blancpain customer service

Shortly after buying my milspec, second hand and long out of warranty, the rotating bezel stopped working properly.

I already knew staff at the NYC boutique and the manager told me to stop in town at his convenience and it would be fixed on the spot. I’ve visited the boutique several times and am always treated with exemplary customer service. Plus, I got a cool loupe.

Whole brand is highly underrated

Very nice! Very underrated indeed. I hope they bring Leman back. The simplicity of that line across the models was perfection imo.

I’ve certainly had very pleasant interactions with Lange’s retail staff. But post-sale servicing is an aspect of ownership that is often under-discussed.

In the video there are ample examples of servicing issues in both EMEA and APAC.

One potential irritant is that everything has to be sent to Germany for Lange. So iteration cycles are weeks and months on end, especially if there’s any back-and-forth.

These service horror stories have kept me from purchasing a Lange 1.

Interesting video. First time my Lange 1 went in was bad timekeeping and rough crown wind. It is in currently for that date issue in the video (goes up to 39). Lange Germany did say for both first and second issues, that they were valid warranty services. Interesting that the date issue is a “production issue.” But all services are 4-6 months. Still love the watch enough to want it back :).

The boutiques that I have worked with have been nothing but professional so far.

This is one of the things that worries me about buying a Lange second hand—that someone had a non-Lange watchmaker service it. It seems that even if that watchmaker did a fine enough job, Lange is probably going to know and make the watch go to Switzerland and charge even more for the service.
