One I really enjoy........

Being WIS, we all like a lot of the higher end stuff, but I've learned that watches don't have to be expensive for me to enjoy them. One of my favourite lines of watches now are the ones Eddie Platts turns out under the Precista brand. Most are now made entirely by Fricker in Germany.

I bought a PRS-14 awhile back. It's designed to MoD dive watch specs, but with improvements like anti magnetic shielding (which makes it about 3mm thicker than the original. The PRS-14 is kind of a hommage to the original Omega Seamaster 300, which is one of my favourite dive watches of all time. Keeping true to the time, it comes with a domed acrylic crystal (Eddie even throws in a spare crystal and a tube of Polywatch). I've scratched mine a bit, but not enough to bother me enough to polish it.

The PRS-14 comes with a combo brushed and polished finish. I didn't like the polish so I sent it off to Bry for bead blasting (along with two other watches). I like it much better now! The engine is a bog standard ETA 2824-2, so it's an OK timekeeper. Mine's settled to around 9 sec per day. Compare that to the 1-2 sec per day from my Explorer (and most every other Rolex I've owned for that matter).

Anyway, I really enjoy this watch. I love the classic look. Today, it's on a nice Di-Modell leather strap, but I often wear it on a NATO or Rhino strap. I've ordered a blasted Watchadoo "lumpy" bracelet for it too.

Tough to beat for £345. Next week will be my go with a PRS-18Q as part of the European pass around club. We all chipped in £10 to buy the watch and at the end, one of us will win it. Good cheap fun!
Cheers,
Bruce

Nice one there Bruce. You can't argue with that as a sold, reliable watch. And it does remind me of the old SM300, so you can't get much of a better looks pedigree!
Blasted finish looks good too, how does it hold up over time?

I can't really say how well the finish holds up 'cause I've not had it that long. My Sinn 142 is blasted and I've had it a couple of years. It's ok I guess, but I've not worn it that much to be honest. Problem is, once it's scratched you really have to blast it again, but then the scratches don't show as much to start with.

I just don't like big blingy watches anymore. Makes me feel self conscious around here. The polish on my Explorer doesn't bother me 'cause it's so small, plus the bracelet is brushed. Had my Breitling SO and Seiko BM blasted at the same time. Since sold the Breitling though
Cheers,
Bruce

The BM would look great blasted I'd think.
I can imagine that they would fit a little better in cornwall than an SS daytona
Says a lot about the people, though, too

It looks pretty good IMO Otis!

Here are the three after they came home

Notice on the BM how he took the black fill off the bezel numbers (with my approval). Makes it look entirely different. I saw of pic of another one he did where he filled the bezel numbers with Superluminova. Now that was cool

You're right about the people Otis. You don't see a lot of blingy bling down here, and there are people with a LOT of money, although the majority are much more poor than the rest of England. But, when you consider that a lot of the money is with farmers, you understand why bling just isn't down here.

Cheers,
Bruce

I was just thinking that there's something different about the BM, and I like it!
Very stealth.

Yeah, in the little travelling that I've done, the farmers were the most friendly, welcoming people of them all.
Friends of my parents bought an old farmhouse in rural france, renovated it and live there with several dogs, horses and an old parrot named Boris. Their neighbours were so open to us foreigners, it really blew me away.

When I was a kid and we lived in El Paso Texas, I used to hang out on a horse farm/ranch. The guy who owned it drove an old beat up pick up and was a typical cowboy. You would never know how rich he was, except for his wife, always dressed up and driving a big ol Caddy The wealthiest people I've ever known were the least likely to show it, and most have been farmers/ranchers.

Could not agree more Bruce old Eddie from Timefactors has made some quite remakable good value watches for the money. And with a bit of regulation that ETA could easily match the Explorer, in the time keeping department

Very nice watch Bruce. It does remind me of a SM 300, but probably at a fraction of the cost

I also like what you did with the monster. It gives it a totally different look. I would love to see a pic of the one woth the luminous numbers on the bezel. I love my monster

Yeah that's a cool watch alright! I don't think they were much more than the PRS-14 when new, but being a limited edition, they've become a real cult watch. They seem to have at least doubled, if not tripled in value. Sure wish I had bought one!
Cheers,
Bruce

Dreadnought was £400 when introduced
The highest I have ever heard of one changing hands was very close to £2000,but thats was a bit back.Same as the 6263/5 Daytona's at this time late 70s early 80s cost then around £700-£800.Rolex could not give them away everyone wanted auto, now mint 6263/5 are selling for up to £20000.

Sure: watchuseek.com and timefactors.com. On Timefactors, just click on forum and that'll put you in there. Then you can puruse the sales forums at your leisure.

Damn!! This is the last one to come up on TZ-UK. The guy was asking 1800 euros for it. That's about $2286! Don't know if he sold it or not.

Well I found five for sale so far...not as hard to get as I thought. I guess I can get all of them and start a demand and make big bucks -- that would be illegal if these were stocks! But they are not.

I was also debating buying a lot of fake Rolexes in real boxes and mailing them to JJ's co-workers as an anonymous Christmas gift... nah, better not.

It's 8:30pm here and my house is 11 time zones away. I'm trying to buy a Dreadnought so my day will have some productivity in it.

Hey, I just realised you're in Qatar.....so why don't you look out for that TT Blue Sub, pal? You may get a fantastic price considering everything in the Middle East is tax free!!
