Icon14 'Who the heck are Arctic Monkeys?'

This band is , and the thread title was actually the name of their album, so don't shoot the messenger

Makes me nostalgic about the time when Rock-n-Roll was real and not corporate At least there are good acts still remaining - this is one of them!

for some reason embedding is disabled on this one - but a link is almost as good!

The monkeys are pretty cool but have transformed from the hip garage band to the stadium filling group they are today...

Only natural I guess....

Good pick tho Greg!

Greg.

Seeing as you like the Monkeys, have you heard the stuff from Alex's other project?

Jimbo, thanks for the pointer... BTW, the original thread title was changed to be more 'forum friendly' (sorry, mods!), so the album title is no longer the title, just a note.

Like the act - Alex can carry it by himself, but sounds good in a duo as well... Gonna check out more of their stuff, no doubt!

We seem to have pretty similar tastes in music as far as alt. rock.

Give this one a try its my latest purchase. I love the part at 2:00 minutes.

Then the title would have been 'Who the **** are Arctic Monkeys, eh?'

It's the subtle differences.

Arctic Monkeys!!! Great band, heard them for the first time on the TV series Being Human on BBC. Cool show with a great soundtrack.

Being a student in Sheffield, it does annoy me that for a large number of people in the city, music begins and ends with the Arctic Monkeys. I've never enjoyed their music or the indie scene, so it makes things interesting trying to find places that don't worship the ground they stand on

With pleasure Greg - I'm a huge Faith No More/Mike Patton fan, I love his experimentation and range of voice. Apart from that, I like classics like Led Zep and Bowie, and as for more recent stuff, Metallica, Muse, John Frusciante and Evanescence amongst other bands

I'm with you on most of those - of course the classics are, well, the classics. Zep, Bowie, and the likes are on my list as well. Faith No More had a couple of duds, but for the most part -

But Evanescence?!?!??! Corporate . I can't believe they even sell those posers in the Rock section, while it should be under "Christian", IMO.

I do somewhat agree with you about Muse. The music is great - however, I think the lyrics desire some improvement. The lead's voice is awesome, but words make very little sense, they just put together things that rhyme

I have a thing for Amy Lee and her voice One of the better female vocalists in recent rock, but I can understand your point of view

The thing I like about Muse is that three men can put together such an intense and epic sound - the lyrics might not be a strong point, but the music itself is intelligent and has a real depth. The Absolution album is still one of my all time favourites

Well, Amy Lee is not bad to look at or listen to, I agree... But neither is Christina Aguilera, but I don't own any of her music.

I do agree with you about Muse. The sound is certainly different from anything I have ever heard.

I was among the first in the US to see them live back when they did their initial shows here (only a handful). I saw them at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. March 27, 2006.

By then they were already huge in the UK, but they were pretty much unknown in the US.
