Young rolex owners

Im new here and still finding my feet, if you dont know me yet im andrew from the UK and im 19. I hope to stick around so i thought id introduce myself.

Im looking to buy my first rolex and im trying to do as much research as possible and gain some knowledge along the way, there seems to be alot of friendly guys who know thier watches.

I currently own a swiss army watch and have saved nearly £3000, so im still saving and im looking either a sub or a SD.

I cannot decide yet.... I orginally was going to buy a tag the only reason to why is i thought alot of people would assume a rolex on a 19year old was fake and so on,

but my uncle owns a lovely DJ and has strongly advised me not to worry its my wrist and i know its a rolex and how much of a better watch they are, so im currently in the market for a LNIB sub or SD in the UK

Sorry for the ramble, quick question out of curiousity are there any young rolex owners if so what do you own and what made you decide on your rolex?

First of all welcome to the forum. Don't worry what other people will think, buy a Rolex because YOU want a Rolex. Like many other things in life you should not let others influence your decision. If someone asks you if your Rolex is fake, I say, "Yes it is. Bought it on Canal St. It's the best $25 I ever spent." then slowly silk away.

I could not agree more, ever rolex owner faces that question. If you own a YMII priced at 30,000 to a 2,000 sea-dweller people will have there own thoughts. But they will be wrong

Young grasshopper....buy what you like and can afford.
You won't regret buying a Rolex...Tag makes good watches.....but you also have to think about resale......

I'm sure people think mine is fake... Most peeps have never seen barked links.

And to be 100% honest, I don't mind strangers thinking that at all!!

I got it for me; not them!

The best way to know the "right" one for you is to go and try them out. I was convinced I wanted a DeepSea, but after trying it on, it wasn't for me. I am not blessed wth the wrists needed to make this watch look right, it just looked silly on my tiny wrists. Then I saw the Sub LV and fell in love. Tried it on, and wow, pure love. Picking it up in a few weeks, and after 20 years, I will finally have my Rolex. Good luck in your search. I honestly think the watch ultimately chooses you... You will know the "right" one as soon as you put it on.

Was it hard for you to decide which rolex for your first?

I can't decide between a SD or a sub.

I love both in different ways and each different features and spec.

Im unsure if i would wear them at weekends or nights out ect or day to day, i tink id love it that much and not take it off.

Quick question, is there much difference in a 2001 sub and a 2008 sub, reason is my friend has got a 2001 sub for sale at a good price it could do with a polish and a clean but it seems good value, i have only seen pictures and not in person yet

First of all, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!! I was your age when I got my first Rolex, but they were a lot cheaper then. The only advice I have is to buy the watch you fall in love with. Try them all on, and see which one sings to you. You can't really make a bad choice. Go with your heart. And again, WELCOME!!

I, too, own a lovely DJ and your uncle speaks the absolute truth. Some of the people I've run across during the 35 years that I've worn a DJ recognize it and others do not. However, I know what it is and love it. Enjoy. Oops, are you old enough to drink beer in the UK?

Yes we can drink beer from age 18 here in the UK, im actually drinking a coors light here after a late shift in work.

I really like the sub with a date as ive tried it on and felt comfortable with it on my wrist, i do like the SD but it is heavier and slighlty more chunky and does not have the cyclops which i cannot decide if i like or not, as im so used to looking at subs with a date and cyclops???

I cannot wait to own one and finally put one on my wrist my uncle will be so happy for me too. I will wear it mostly on a day to day basis and im on the lookout for a LNIB sub in the UK, if any of you guys know any please let me know. Thanks for taking the time and helping me become a true member of trf lol

hola Andrew, welcome to TRF, well what motivates me to get the Sub Date was the boldness, history and the complete watch that is... i love it and i wear it almost every day, my first Rolex was the same Sub Date but i sold it cause i saw a lot of people using and using fake ones too, most of the people ask if is a fake or a real one, then after a few years again, i went back to the Sub date, i love it.. all of it... its a sport and dress watch at the same time, it maches with all ocations... it has a date and a bezel to mesure time.

good luck in your persuit... i'm after a Daytona now....

From another young grasshopper to grasshopper. Buy what you want, you will know what you are wearing on your wrist. I went with the Explorer I. Also, buying pre-owned or second hand will cost much less.

My first rolex i got was an oyster date when i was 13. This past summer I bought my 1st rolex at 22 and I chose the GMT Master IIc. I could not care less if people think my watch is fake, I actually prefer it that way, all that matters is that i know its real. I also own a tag but nothing compares to my 2 Rolex. I put a rubber band on my Tag and only use it for work.
Buy a Rolex, the price is more but it is a watch that will last a life time and always look good.

This is my 1st Rolex in the picture below. I bought it in my mid teens and have been wearing it ever since. Buy the watch you like don't pay any attention to magazines, trends, and other peoples advice or criticism. You will be paying for it and wearing it. Your heart and mind will choose it for you.Good luck

Once in my college days the fact that someone thought my watch was a fake kept me from being robbed.

You have got good wearing out of your watch, i think i may go for a sub with date as this was my frst love. My uncle is talking about doing me a good price on his DJ as he wants a AIRKING, im finding it very hard to decide, but i think the sub is more youthfull and would suit my day to day needs and looks more

Welcome to the forum!! I just recently joined and I've found that the knowledge you can gain here is second to none!! Like others have said, you need to buy the watch for you, regardless of what others think. That being said, I don't think you can go wrong with a Sub, its a great watch for young guy. I just bought myself my first Rolex at 28.... a Sub LV, and I couldn't be happier. Good luck with your purchase!!!

I'm older than you (28) and I have a YG DD. A lot of people told me it would not like right, YG was tacky, blah blah blah but my uncle had a similar watch and I feel in love with it. I'm sure that when people see me in the street, they probably thinking "oh, he's wearing his dad's watch" but I couldn't care less. It's your watch, buy the one you want and ENJOY!!!

The SD will probably keep the value more, they don't make them anymore.

Try them on and you'll figure it out. No point in having other people decide for you.

hi andrew! welcome to TRF!
was 17 when my folks gave me my AK. no worries since i see batchmates wearing GMTIIs and Sub Dates then too...
vote goes to the Sub Date (versus Sea Dweller)... but if you'e looking at the Deep Sea vs the Sub Date, personally, i'd go for the Deep Sea!

Well, there are no rules! I just turned 60, and I am looking at getting my first Rolex. One of the main reasons for me, is that I appreciate the fact that Rolex refuses to get caught up in the "bigger is better" state of mind. I have had some pretty big watches, the biggest being a 45mm and 18.5mm thick Breitling Avenger Seawolf. A great looking watch, but now that I have my 36mm Omega Seamaster, I am a lot happier.Point is, I am doing all this to please myself. My best friend, who has 3 cars, and just spent 250 bucks on a Hugo Boss quartz watch, thinks I am nuts! I don't drive a car, don't own real estate, but I do spend vast sums of money on watches.
You earned that money, and saved for the watch, so buy it any enjoy it!
Cheers,
Carl

I know how you feel

I am younger then to and my first rolex was a sub I saved up my money for 3 years to get it and rolex was right there is a crown for every achivement the reason I picked the sub is because it looked very sporty and I love to dive/swim but its all up to you pick the one you like best and I hope you enjoy it. good luck finding the one you like

What age are you JRA21,

i like the SD as they are more rare and have no cyclops and look real clean simple.

I hope i can find a LNIB in the UK soon and dont have to wait that long....
