So what really is the PERFECT size?
Hi guys,
There's been quite a bit of dispute on watch sizes, ranging from the small mid-size 31 mm to the 34 mm Air-Kings, 36 mm DJs and DDs.......the 39 mm Pearlmaster (which not too many of us here can really afford) .........and then of course, the most popular 40 mm common to all the sports models.....followed by the 41 mm for the new DJ-II and DD-II, then the 42 mm on the YM-II and last, but not the least, the 43 mm on the DSSD!! Right, so here we have sizes ranging from a small 31 mm to a rather large 43 mm. Question is: How can we ascertain a size which would fit virtually ANY SIZED wrist - from a tiny 6" wrist to a massive 8 or 8½" one!! In my honest opinion, the PERFECT size for virtually all of the above sized wrists would be 39 mm, but that's just my opinion. What do YOU think? JJ

You are right about the new DJ , tried one on last week, too big for me. In 38-39 mm would be just right.

I'd agree that 39mm or maybe 40mm would be perfect for almost everyone. Personally, I prefer 41-42mm but if you're looking for a one-size-fits-all, then yes, 39mm or thereabouts would work.

Good question JJ, I wear a 36mm DJ as well as a 40mm GMT2c (the Genius LOL)....they both look good on me, I am about 5' 10". I actually find that I can NOT pull off a jubilee bracelet, or lighter colored faces.....seriously it's wierd. Give me an oyster band and anything from 36-44 and I seem to be okay (dial cant be white for me )

really does depend on my mood ...the only 'big' watch I have is the PAM104...and it would not be my choice for an only watch....but it is there for when the mood takes me...and it is o right when it does
Current GMT2C is the perfect watch for me in terms of size and everyday

A perfect watch size is hard to determine, it depends on the wrist and how you want to be perceived or looked at. A watch is a jewelry piece, so it must look good with your overall presence.
I would normally say wear what you like...a 36mm or a 38mm dress watch seems perfect but may look small with my physical stature. I guess if we are dealing with proportion, then I would say a 40mm watch would fit any man. If you are a flashy person and like presence, then something 40-45mm would be just fine too. A 36mm DJ on me just looks like a small watch, or one of those Seiko look-a-likes........but a DJII would give me that wrist presence. It is essentially jewelry and it wouldn't hurt to have some wrist presence. Appearance is everything, that is why we dress up on certain occasions, or at the office, or meeting clients and the rule goes with jewelry/watches. |

39mm. Not too big, while still being bigger than the standard DD.
IMO probably the size the DDII should have been if it wasn't just meant to be a "statement" watch. So, I agree! Thank goodness for the Masterpiece being 39mm! |

Though if I was a giant, maybe the thought of wearing a 54mm wall clock on my wrist would somehow seem reasonable

I used to think that my 36mm DJ was perfect size but then after buying a Panny 44mm now my DJ feels small when I used it. So I think for me 40-45mm would be best for me.

I am more concern with the height of a watch, more than I do with width.

Agreed, one reason why I didn't take too much to the 15 mm high SD or, even worse, the 18 mm high DSSD!!

Back on track - I've been doing swapsies with a couple of mates the last week, been wearing a Sub for a couple days and just gave back an EXP II black face, I love the size of the EXP II, between that and my 94 DJ, perfect

I am seriously thinking about a black face EXPII I remember buying my 16610, I loved it at first, but wasn't long before it was shelved and I went back to either the DD or DJ, now the EXPII experience, well I think I've found my next keeper!!! I could not believe how well it fit, and damn it looks like it belonged on my wrist Perfect, now to convince the wife that my 40th is a good time to grab one I don't mind waiting even longer, worth the wait!!!

Here's one way to find out if a watch is too big on you.....have a friend or someone you know try it on.
I always find it that the 40mm sport watches look perfect on me and when I let someone try it on....it looks bigger on them, that's when I know the watch may be a tad big...but who cares! P.S. I only have a 7 inch wrist. |

For me it would be 37-39mm depending on the layout/bezel. My 39mm IWC pilot actually wears bigger than my Explorer II (which according to JJ's measurements is also 39mm, but by some accounts is actually 40) because it has no bezel. I'd have preferred that in 38 for example. My 38mm PP Aquanaut is the perfect size on me. If Rolex upped the Exp. 1 to 37.5mm (so as not to lose any of the watch's wonderful proportions) I'd have bought that.

imo & experience - anything between 39mm and 42mm with a decent height suits my 7.25" wrist. anything outside that would make me looking silly......
it also depends on your build imo |
