This one made me go Daytona Mad

It's been nearly over two years since I first lay my eyes on a manual Daytona. It was an instant love affair that defied rationality and caused some criticism when I sold the majority of my existing collection to fund some more Daytonas.

Looking back I remain a content man.

Many thanks and then it grew to this

My camera work is yet to top this combo.

...and this one in particular lights my fire aka 'The sun king' as the dial is magnificent in the light.

Whenever I see this in the Australian sun I just go wow!

Wow Padi, Oztimelord....

I think I prefer the looks of That model to current day SS White Dial Daytonas.

Few questions..

To confirm, the Valjoux movement is wind up mechanical?

Is it really inferior to say Zenith or modern day Daytona movements?

What sort of price do these command?

The Valjoux 72 series is a manual wind movement and quite respected in its day at the time poor sellers. The all gold versions 6263/5 were COSC tested but the S.Steel 6263/5l were not but exactly the same movements
.

Is the ETA Valjoux inferior to the Zenith or modern Daytona, well in many eyes anything ETA is inferior IMHO only inferior is the main fact only 30 minute timer Valjoux manual wind the others auto and longer timers, but myself love manual wind. But as for accuracy longevity of life etc all very close all excellent chronograph movements. As for prices well only what someone is willing to pay, mine is not for sale at any price

Prices ranges for 6263/5 have seen mint examples $38000 plus

Beautiful Rene.. and the rest of you that own those fantastic vintage Daytonas! One question, which do you like better, the seconds hand at the 9:00 (Zenith-like) or at the 6:00 (newer Rolex movement)?.

I love mine, but really think they did a mis-service by moving it from 9 to 6. That's just MHO.

Never really thought about it but now that you bring it up. I think I prefer the Zenith style at 9:00.

Then again my Paul Newman is just perfect

And to think my dad traded his way back when TT was in style for his Zenith. He still kicks himself for that. As Padi said, they were not well received when they were in production.
