New Deepsea Owner
This is my very first Rolex purchase. Thought I would put in my two-cents worth since there seems to be some differing opinions on the Deepsea. I purchased the watch from Hautelook about a month ago. I got a great deal, $7300 with no sales tax. It took about 10 days for the watch to be shipped.
My first impressions were very similar to many on this board about the DSSD. As an owner of a Tag previously, this watch seemed HUGE. I think the thickness is more of an adjustment than the case size. The watch is also very heavy and you know you are wearing it vs most other watches. Since I wear a suit to work I was worried that this watch wouldn't fit under my shirt cuff, but it fits with room to spare. Still, I found myself being VERY AWARE of this watch being on my wrist It took a day or two to get used to. At around day 3 once I got used to the weight and size, it hit me. This watch is awesome. Despite it's size, it does not move around on my wrist even though there is some slack. Its very well balanced. The clasp is a feat of modern engineering. The casing is so shiny that it reflects like a mirror. Much the same with the domed crystal and ceramic bezel. The reflectivity of the crystal/bezel makes this watch jump out without being flashy or pretentious. The "Original Gas Escape Valve" lettering on the face looks big in pictures, but in person its just not that noticeable. I think looking at a large hi-def picture of this watch somehow mis-represents how good it looks in person....if that makes any sense. I have now been wearing my DSSD for two weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I ran into my local jeweler last week at a restaurant. He is a Rolex dealer, and was none too happy that I bought the watch from Hautelook. There was no way he could match the price I got it for. With what sounded like sour grapes he told me..."those deepsea's don't have good resale value"....I replied ...."I don't plan on reselling it, I plan on giving it to my son when I die" P.S. I have not so big 6 1/2" wrists. No problem! |

Great deal and a beautiful watch!
Enjoy and wear it in good health! As for resale, I have not really seen a used one out there for sale for much below $7000 so resale seems pretty good if you buy right like you did. I need one!!! I miss mine. I just keep looking for the right price!

Thats what I thought. I think the resale could be a combination of the economy plus the fact that it's a relatively new model that is not recognized readily except for Rolex afficionados.
Doesn't really matter. I would prefer to be a collector rather than a trader. |

Congrats on a great choice! The DSSD continues to be my favorite watch and it practically never leaves my wrist. Enjoy it for many years to come!

Excellent choice. Congradulations. The glidelock clasp on the DSSD is the best.

Very nice, very strong "statement", masculine watch. And the clasp is a great innovation. When I tried one I was struck by the thickness of the case , the tapered bracelet did seem somewhat out of proportion. But on your wrist it doesn't really look that way from your pics. I got to admit tho' I think the original Sea Dweller is the perfect balance for a big watch . I don't think anything has got great resale at the moment so I wouldn't worry too much about your ADs rather "snarky"comment.

Enjoy the new watch, I think you're right about the lettering, it does seem more pronounced in pics.
I would remember the AD's snide remark when looking for somehing new in the future. It wasnt good business on his part. |

Thats what I was thinking. I would like to make the Daytona my next new Rolex in a few years. He severely damaged his chances of selling one to me. |

The DSSD is also my first Rolex. I didn't care much for some of the traditional models but when I saw the DSSD, it was love. It looks fine on your wrist, congrats.

I agree. A few of my colleagues bought them in the past few years, and they were all variations of the Submariner. Great watch but I wanted something out of the ordinary.

IMHO...if I start buying watches based on the resale value, then its time for me to get another hobby.
I heard the same thing about the Explorer II--"don't buy it the resale is terrible". But I'm enjoying the heck out of my white-dialed beauty! Enjoy your DSSD and don't worry about making a profit if you decide to sell it.

Looks like the watched was shipped from an AD in Hong Kong. I looked up the dealer and they're legit. The site I bought from is very reputable. My wife has been a member for a couple of years and all their goods are legit. I reopened my box and looked at the receipt. Final tally was $7395 with no sales tax. Unbelievable deal IMO. |

Its bizarre, but the HKG economy is RELATIVELY strong and that may be why the prices are higher? |
