what to choose, 16610 or 116710?

im at a very exciting point at the moment, im about to buy a ROLEX.

ive bought a couple of watches this year a Breitling SOH 46, a Panerai 112 and a Doxa 1000t (went within a week)

Problem is none of these watches have satisfied my incredible lust for watches. its taken me a while but i worked out its because none of these watches is a ROLEX!

i intend to have this as my only watch for some years to come, as ive decided that this Rolex is all the watch im going to need so both the Breitling and Panerai are going( i have a Tag i only wear occasionally but this has real sentimental value), i can afford to just add the Rolex to my collection but i want to save some cash and this watch thing is taking over.

i want to get it right! ive to 2 models in mind and its a straight choice between the 2.

i love the Sub, essence du Rolex in my opinion and id be after the 16610, i thought i wanted the 14060M but i really prefer the 16610 but the more i browse the forum the more i like 116710

so the question im asking is this which would you buy and why?

i know people will say whatever you feel is the one you should buy, but i want to know what you would buy and why!

thanks and Happy New Year

Joe

It's a tough call. Both rock. Have you taken the time to try them on? That might make the decision easier for you. I have both and love both. Congrats on the decision to go Rolex and good luck.

I like the GMT watches that have the red 24 hour hand. I don't think that the green hand contrasts quite so well with the dial.
The 16610 has the older sleek case as opposed to the new more blocky case. Some people have had the clasp fail on the 116710 and the ceramic bezel costs lots if you damage it. The 16610 clasp is not as sophisicated but it has worked fine for thousands of watches. The PCL on the 116710 are not for me.
If I were honest, I prefer the GMT II classic to the Sub but as the GMT II classics can rarely be bought brand new now I would buy the Sub rather than the GMT II C.
If the Sub is discontinued this year it might keep its value better than the GMT II C.

Great that your about to get a Rolex!!! But is it possible that even A ROLEX won't satisfy your watch 'lust' either?
IMO one watch does not have it all.. Im sure there are some who will disagree but I am definitly not a 1 watch man.. I need a variety to satisfy.. Thats why I cant just have one Rolex but need two,,, one dress model and one sport. If you can be satisfyed with ONE then you are a lucky man!!

My vote would go to the Sub because it can be dressed up or down..

sub 16610 looks cleaner and it's a classic.. i don't think they will still be producing the sub 16610 this year,so get it while you can.. you can always get a 116710 ln later since it just came out in the market.. sub is more rugged and a tool watch..it's a beatiful piece..

I vote for the GMT - the perfect modern Rolex in my opinion. A blend of great looks, truly solid engineering and the cutting edge of technology puts almost the entirety of the sports line in the shade. The Sub really feels like a 20 year old design next to this beauty of a watch, and, for me, there's no real competition.

If you want a all purpose watch, either would be fine. If you are indifferent to pricing, I'd suggest GMT because it has the added function, better clasp, and more solid case.

If you want a watch with instant recognition from non-WIS, get the sub.

If you dive with gear, get the Sub.

I had both and kept the GMT. Although I'm holding out for the Sub Cermaic.

If it was me, I would go for the submariner. It is the iconic Rolex. And a great all round watch, which will probably be upgraded soon.
The GMT2c is too dressy looking for me with the polished centre links on the bracelet and shiny ceramic bezel. Also it has the over sized lugs which makes the bracelet look too skinny.
