Couple questions on storage
Looking at buying another Rolex. Question is, with not haveing to buy one of those auto turner things, how good does the rolex store. If aleternate wearing month to month say, is OK? LIke having a spare to carry with me on my travels.
Little worried on the Rolex I just bought being a D series, means sitting in the shop for over one year? So does that mean, maybe the oil will become dry sooner? The Omega store said that is waht may bave happended to my Omega, was an older model had for 2 years, but they said maybe was in the store for a couple of years before I bought? Would think that a year old Rolex, would be good to go? Thanks. |

I have a 20yo GMT II that I stopped wearing when I got my sd. The advice I got was....
Its fine to leave it in the box, give it a wind once a month, about 40 winds or 20 complete revs of the crown, have it serviced by Rolex when you want to bring it back into service (ie when I give it to my son when he leaves school about 10 years to go). She'll be sweet.. |

I have several pieces that get little wear. Just wind it once a month or so and you're fine.
If it sat for years might be a good idea to take it to a watchmaker first. |

Take the advice given above regarding giving the watch a wind once a month or so. I would hope (maybe I'm asking too much?) that an AD would do the same thing and give all the watches they have in the store a wind once a month or so to keep the lubricants in good shape. What I think is particularly bad about a store is the watches being under bright, hot lights for long periods.

Agree with Al on the last bit. Those powerful lights could do things to the watches like dial fade, etc.
I know for a fact that my AD has his sales persons give the autos a full wind now and then. In fact, when you look into the window, you actually see some of the autos going!! Once a month, about 40 turns of the crown, and you should be fine. JJ

Perhaps, but you have to agree about its unique gears concept. Pretty interesting and eye-catching!!

I saw one of these recently in the duty-free at Johannesburg airport...it was being used in the display of watches in the rather crap and overpriced jewellery store. The winder certainly looked cool!
