Deepsea - M vs. V series?

Dumb question...

As I understand it, M-series were the first generation Deepseas. V-series are the second. Outside of that, is there any difference in the two models?

Thanks!

Well, not exactly..

There has only been one generation of DSSD.......... It has not changed since it's introduction..

The M or V is just part of the serial number......... nothing more. And since they are producing both M and V, there is no real correlation to when one came off the assembly line......

Interesting. I didn't know the M or Vs were produced at the same time. Thanks bud.

Understand that the M series was the very first release of the watch so from a collectibility standpoint, the M would be the way to go as 30 years from now it would be worth a lot more than a V.

However, all of the issues that have been reported with the Deepsea such as the bearings in the rotatable bezel failing, or the caseback not being properly threaded thus leaving uneven spacing between caseback and the oyster were all reported on the M-series.

I haven't heard any complaints about V serials which means the issues had been ironed out by the time these were made.

I have a V serial I bought brand new in Feb 09. It's a daily wear and I have no issues to report.

Not true. My friend has a V serial and sent it back because the bezel rotates in both directions. Mine is an M serial - PJ3 bracelet (March 2008) and is perfect.

Just curious - did Rolex fix it or did they replace the watch with a new one?

Well in well over 30 years of Rolex experience never heard of any watch becoming collectable just because of a case date stamp. Most guys make the importance of case date stamp far to great. Its only a rough indication when the case was stamped and not necessarily when the case had its movement installed to make a complete watch.

I chatted to A Rolex Regional Manager in Florida in Sept 2008.He commented that Rolex DO NOT make watches to coincide with a specific year of production, and do not want customers to look at them that way.

They want customers to buy the watches on display in the AD stores and not worry about/or get into a debate if its the latest version/seriel number.

I have one of the very first issed M serial no: dssd and mine was one of the first to go back to the rolex hospital for attention...

the bezel failed.... so after a short trp to geneva back to the rolex factory the watch came back as new.

Still love the watch to bits, and swap it with my tudor hydronaut 1200....
