"Deadliest Catch" captain dies.......

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100210/...pt_phil_harris

Quote:
Phil Harris, the captain of the Cornelia Marie, on Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch," has died. He was 53. Harris suffered a stroke on Jan. 30.

"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad," Harris' sons, Jake and Josh, said in a statement. "Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

Harris once said there are certain superstitions he always abided by.

"I don't leave on a Friday, ever," he said, "because the last two times I did I blew up the main engine. So I just don't do it."

Harris suffered the stroke as he unloaded his last catch on Jan. 30, which was a Friday.
He will be missed and he and his crew was one of my favorites. I was a big fan of the show. He went out doing what he loved....

RIP Captain Phil Harris

I have watched the show since Season 1. It won't be the same without him. May he rest in peace.

X2 He was a tough Captain on the outside, but a loving father, a caring person on the inside, I had a lot of respect for him. I just wish he took better care of himself, sitting all day long, smoking, eating fat, even after the scary episode where his heart had a bloodclot go through it, he never changed his habbits, maybe if.... well, I guess it doesnt matter. Here's to Phil

Wow, that is terrible news. My parents have watched that show for a long time, and that was my mothers favorite captain. She is definately upset over his loss.

I come from a long line of fishermen and sailors. My family told me that seagulls are the souls of dead sailors and must always be treated with respect. I give them a wee
nod as they fly past " Allright Mates ? " Phils soul is now free , remember... no flying
on Fridays !

I'm taking for granted that this stroke is all part of the same problem where the incident of him previously having the blood clot in his lung.

Didn't watch the show very often, but the times I did, I always found him a compelling character and a quality person.

A few of the episodes I did watch seemed to dramatize his health issues--I thought it was simply a case of producers trying to heighten the tension.

Sadly, I was very wrong.

RIP

I watched him on the shows and I liked him, he was really a hard core fisherman. He died doing what he enjoyed fishing, it is really to bad, he was still young however his health was bad from what I had read.

RIP.
