Robert Maron Watches is listing a Rolex Ref 6542 GMT with a FAKE Dial..
Err buddies...a few days ago...
Orchi noticed an eBay listing of 6542 GMT... Serial number 381XXX dates production to 1958... which is currently being auctioned by Robert Maron Watches... with a Buy Now price of USD34,500... http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-VINTAGE-GM...item23043654d1 Orchi then pointed the eBay listing of the 6542 GMT out in VRF... n Orchi opined that the watch has a FAKE Dial... Subsequently...many experienced collectors n dealers... would also agree to that fact... http://www.network54.com/Forum/20759...is+6542-%2B%2B Since then Orchi was reminded that the eBay Seller company... is owned by Mr. Robert Maron... who is currently in charge of Antiquorum Auctioneers... http://www.google.com.my/url?q=http:...r0Sd7XLhS0fWRA Nevertheless...on the following day... a VRF member n Seller... questioned why Orchi thinks... the 6542 GMT listed by Robert Maron Watches... has a FAKE Dial... http://www.network54.com/Forum/20759...+a+fake+dial+- Here are the reasons... 1. The earliest Rolex GMT watch model Ref 6542 with No Crown Guards... which was introduced n produced by Rolex from 1954 until 1959... NEVER had "OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE" plots under the Coronet... on its "OCC" Gilt Dial with Chapter Ring...minute track. Instead...ALL 6542 GMT should only have "OYSTER-PERPETUAL" ...plots under the Coronet. 2. The same 6542 GMT has NEVER had... the "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED"...plots. Instead...it only has "OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER" plots... above the 6 o'clock marker...hence the abbreviation reference of... "OCC" Gilt Dial... 3. The "OCC" plots would remain synonymous with Ref 6542 GMT... until the last batch of 6542 GMT production in 1958/59 or so...on Gilt Dial. Even until Rolex produced in decades later... the service replacement batch of CR Dials in White plots... n marked with "SWISS-T<25"... Here are a few examples Courtesy of VRF Dial Archive... Posted by Buddy Stephane... Posted by an Anonymous VRF member... Posted by Buddy Tomvox1... Vintage Service Replacement Tritium Dial... posted by Buddy Seiji... Modern Service Replacement Luminova Dial... posted by Buddy Hadoque... Orchi feels...Lady Casper should pay eBay a visit... to get the relevant listing...withdrawn ASAP... Lets lend Lady Casper a helping hand... what say the TRF Buddies...? |

Now we have a "fake spotting" of the major league type . No "wiener" spotting here ! These are the threads I love the most here , you really get history and tech lessons in one . "Orchi"is just something else ! I mean we do not see or hear him that often , but when we do ; he is not there to waste our time . Thank You SIR Orchi

Upon closed inspection, the date font looks as though is was typed on using a typewriter - and are some of the dates black and some red?

Great catch Buddy Orchi.... the dial is horribly redone.
The most disappointing part of your thread is that Robert Maron runs Antiquorum. ps .... This auction should be pulled by eBay but with his reputation I highly doubt that will happen. |

It is sometimes a battle to get a WIENER pulled from a 0 feedback in Afghanistan . Pigs may fly before we can pull that one . I guess we will have to wake up all the " BIG GUNS " we have here on this one . Dave is excused of course .

Done , right after I read Orchi's thread . If the Ebay account gets banned or blocked I don't give a dead monkey's .. about it . I don't have one , it's my wife's account I'm using for that anyway

Has anyone tried contacting Robert directly? He is a good guy, from what I hear.
Good eye, Orchi, btw.

I have read some posts and comments on VRF about this person by some very well respected members in the Rolex loving community that suggest that this is not the case . |

I would have been the seller that ended it or just ended without bidder .
You can also see that the seller had during the listing altered the description and also changed the return policy to: NO RETURNS ACCEPTED ? |

No bids .................. Thankfully This silly mess with such a well known seller is not good. Makes me glad we have the re-sellers we do on this forum.

Even with what Orchi pointed out, even for an amateur there is red flags that Orchi did not even point out. Sad.. I wonder what he knows about the Mayer dial?

I'm honestly surprised... Thought at the least RM would respond to the inquiries.
