Seiko Premier

Anybody heard of the Seiko Premier line? I was at the mall today during lunch, and this store sold Seikos. I asked to see if they had any springdrive, and he offered the Premier line.

This line only has two models. One model with black dial with SS band, and the other one with white dial with leather band (dressier looking).

MSRP is 1450 and he can give 40% off the list.

According to the store owner, these are "better" than springdrive as it provides more features ie. day/date and as well as power reserve indicators. These are considered automatic, but uses the same principle as the springdrive.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Actually, I was so taken with the pic, I didn't look.

Ya, it look similar to that although I don't recall the big date window by the 12 o'clock, but then again, I quickly looked at it.

I think the spring drives are better.

I'm not sure if its sales talk from the owner, but he said that Premier has more features in it, while springdrive has less. At the same time its on a different level.

For sure its half the price.

I think the guy was trying to BS you, that or its partly true in the sense that my 99 dollar g-shock can do more than my Rolex.

Vernon, if you want a relatively inexpensive mechanical, a buddy of mine just picked up two Swiss Army mechanicals (one black dial, one white, one on a bracelet one on a strap) that are powered by the Unitas 64XX hand wound movement. He got them at a jeweller in Whitby or Oshawa and said they list at CDN$600 but he got like 50% off when he bought the two. But they're 44mm cases.
