Hi Guys:

New to the forum ... great community here ... Fantasic wealth of knowledge etc.

Anyway, looks like my next watch will be a Deepsea or a 41MM DJII (blue stick, white stick, or TT white) ...

I've been told the Deepsea (or something like a GMTIIc) would hold it's value better than a DJII and be easier to move down the road if I ever wanted to sell.

Is assumption valid? If so, would there be a big difference?

both are great watches, why don't you chose a watch you like, rather than a watch you think you will get more resale value from....

stay away from TT if you plan to flip later on... i think you take the brunt of the initial pay-out (if bought brand new of course). if you're going for a TT, might be wise to get a mint condition 2nd hand and let the 1st owner take the brunt...

Hahaha, yeah, you're right, I've never been disappointed when I've bought the watch that "sings to me" ... but they both sing equally ... just very different ... It's like Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz ... How do you choose?

I also know I get bored with things VERY quickly so I always like to know what I'm getting into when I'm shelling out big $.

this is a tough one... i personally like them both!!!

what are your current watches? maybe that should be the deciding factor considering you like both the DJII and the Deap sea... but just a "maybe"!

i have an Air King... and now saving up for a sports model watch... if you have a DJ already, maybe get a sports model like the deep sea for your next watch...

but again... "maybe"... some have even stuck to just one model but in different variations (ie. Sub -- SS, LV, no date, TT bluesy, TT Black, etc)...

sorry if i was not much help...

but this is indeed a tough choice...

Completely unscientific observation - I seldom see a DSSD posted for resale over and over and over - they get snapped up fast on the boards.

DJ's of any ilk can languish...

There is a Walter Middy appeal to the big beefy diver that makes it go fast.

(Not that there is anything wrong with that...

)

I agree with buying a watch that you really love and not one that you hope will hold it's resale value. That being said, I took the opportunity to look at a black dial DJII this weekend at my AD. And while I really like the looks of the watch, I wouldn't for a second consider parting with my DSSD for it. The Deepsea is a wonderful watch and I've enjoyed wearing it everyday for almost a year now.

I would go with the DS...
SS Sports models has out performed DJ on the resell market for as long as I can remember. DJII might be different... but i highly doubt it.

Get the one that you like best. I flipped my DSSD for a TT DJII. I also beg to disagree to the suggestion to avoid the TT on issues of poor resale value. To me, the TT stands out better in the DJ/DDate models than on the sports line. Yet again, its just me.

I do not know how you guys can flip that easily . I always want another one , but can never let go of one .

Having just gotten a DSSD myself, I think you made the right decision.
I'd post (the only one I have at the moment) a wrist shot, but I just did in another thread, and that seems a little like over exposure.

Anyway, I think for the difference in price (at least from sellers here), you're getting a lot more watch for your money by going with a Deepsea.

You can beg all you want, but there's no debate that TT will ALWAYS have the bigger depreciation drop when compared to SS models. Show me identical used Subs or Daytona's in both SS and TT and it's always night & day on which ones value dropped more - the TT every time. Sad, but true.

Well Sir, it really depends what part of the world you dispose your watches. Here in Asia, TT hold their value better probobly because we're suckers for gold in here. Many beleive it brings luck. Regards

The DJII is fairly new at the moment so the novelty hasn't worn off yet and i think is holding up quite well against other Rolex. It is true that TT models don't keep the value as well as the SS models so they are a buy used watch. I like the TT models myself but if it was a choice of DJII or DSSD its the Deepsea.

However, watches containing gold also sell for much larger discounts than all-stainless ones. So, the total depreciation curve is somewhat similar.

Buy what you like! What type of work do you do? Will this be a daily watch? If you are a daily office person, I'd choose the DJ. If not, I'd choose the DSSD.

If both watches "sing" to you, then decide what environment your watch will be in. If it is mostly an office, I'd say DJII. If for the outdoors, DSSD.

Holding "value" at resale is really all about what you're paying for it now. DJs historically lose more value than Subs/SDs/GMTs, but that also means you can buy them a lot cheaper in the first instance.

Too early to really tell whether the DeepSea will hold value. When the first pieces started showing up in the US in Oct 08, folks were paying $11K for them; now you can get one for $7K.
