What the AD tells me yesterday

We were at the mall yesterday afternoon and I decided to take a peek in C.D. Peacock because they had a beautiful Rolex window display. I am immediatly greeted by a very nice and knowledgeable salesperson and we were chatting as I looked through their very impressive Rolex inventory (well over 100 I think in 4 long display cases).

While not overly high pressure, he goes through all the typical sales lines including insisting I try on the new all 18K GMT and Sub and others, and he tells me if I'm at all considering a purchase in the near future that I had better do it very soon because they just got a memo from corporate informing of a "steep price increase" coming any day now and they had just received their new pricing on Corum this morning. He said the new Rolex prices were expected between March 15th - 30th so they had to be any day now, and the "word" was anywhere from 15 - 25% !!

If even remotely true, that's quite a price bump!

Typical salesman tactic. Along with:

'You better buy this Sub because when the ceramics come out, this non-ceramic will be really rare...'

and

'The GV is super-rare, I have one in the back that was reserved for a customer but he hasn't paid me yet, you can have it if you buy right now'

and

'the price of gold is rising, so buy your Day-Date now, it'll be an investment'

and

< anyone else >

Believe it or not, I think they actually had a SS Daytona in the case IIRC, as well as several 18K/SS and all 18K models.

Edit: Or perhaps it was just a white gold model?

Was over at my AD yesterday and saw both black and white SS Daytona in the case along with the non cosc SUB, 16610, old sea dweller and 2 LV...
Not a word of price increase though. But I get the feeling that it will happen soon

The best tactic IMO is, "Allow me to slip this onto your wrist." Irresistable!!

I've heard (after someone just purchased one), 'now you'll need a lady's model for your wife...come over here to THIS case...'

I'd say that is a nice AD with a good attitude salesperson on the floor doing his best to sell, sell, sell.
Some AD's noses are so high. Who wants to go in there.

someone putting the hard sell on me for a luxury item costing several thousands is a major turn-off....that, to me, is not doing "his best to sell, sell, sell".

Yeah at least this person is actually letting you trying on some of their inventory comapred to other assssholes who guard their watches like artifacts from British Museum. You might feel that he is a bit pushy here and there however he does get your attention.

I hear this at many AD's, this is the "hard sell" tactic...

I've heard that one before. Almost as much as "Rolex does not allow us to discount that much."
15-25% has to be BS.

IMO I find a 15% to 25% wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 2 high, over the year the increase is about 4% to 14% based on the model...
So not sure where did the sales guy get those #s...
