312 or 320 ?
Hi all
Looking for some opinions on these two please... Have been planning on getting the 312 for a while, but now thinking about the 320 312 - clean look, 'Marina' on the dial 320 - PR meter (on back, where I like it), seconds reset. I can live with a 12 hr GMT function Possible minus: silver GMT hand looks a bit obvious (would prefer black, like the 233 for example) And extra $$$ of course... Thanks Cheers

You mean the 321? (pic below)
Frustratingly, this has a black GMT hand but I don't like PR meters on the dial. Cheers

Like every other company in the world. There will be no perfect product (which makes sense from profit / organization longevity perspective). If it has a sandwich dial, brushed case, polished bezel, veiled GMT hand, there will be a loud PR on the front. If the PR is neatly tucked away on the back, the GMT hand will be blatant. And if all else is perfect, the GMT will be a 12 hour not a full 24 hour gmt. |

It would be nice to have a true GMT function, but be that as it may the 320 would win for me.

Of those two I like the 312 just because I wouldn't pay extra for the gmt hand. You can hide the gmt hand behind the hour hand when you don't need it.

Actually, the 312 is the perfect Panerai for me. I guess I would have liked a rear side PR indicator but otherwise its perfect.
inhouse movement sandwich dial date clean dial small seconds 12 - 6 - 9 ( and 12 - 3 - 6 - 9 once a month ;) brushed case polished bezel exhibitionist case back |

312. Anything more expensive and I go straight to the 233, IMO.

50/50 voting...
I'm starting to edge towards the 320... the arrowhead GMT hand is part of Panerai's design language. Heck, it's in gold on the 289, etc... Also, it kinda balances up the dial. Imho, the 312 has a little too much space around the date window. Now if they'd managed to push the date inboard and included a '3' ... Let me have it boys... Cheers

HUGE fan of the 312....
regarding the 320, i think a GMT needs to show 24 hours and a PR does not do much for me. i especially don't like PR's on the front of the dial, since it strikes me as being a bit gimmic-y that way (imho, of course). |

I know what you mean about the GMT function, but I can live with a 12 hr set up for the sake of a clean dial. I also don't like PR meters on dials, but the 320's is on the back. Useful, but not essential. A nice-to-have, as is the 'zero seconds reset'. Cheers

in the end you cant go wrong with both! $$ will probably make the choice for you.
It might bring you to another price range for the 320 and Joey said it right... brings you 312|..............$...|233 (that much closer). and the bang for the buck from a 320 to a 233 is even greater! To me it seems the 320 is the middle child in the 1950's models. I know there's a GMT function added, but with the used prices of the 233 coming down to a attractive level the gap is tightening. |

Tough choice. I myself like complications and don't own many 3 hand watches. I like GMT's and I think the 320 is nice and subtle. I do NOT like the PR on the 321. I think the PR on the back of the 320 is very cool. The 312 is more simple but really the difference is SO subtle that I give the 320 the edge. I can't see anyone looking at the 320 and saying its cluttered. You can just tuck the GMT hand under the hour hand if you don't want it right?

I much prefer the GMT hands on the 233 or 270 if I ever needed a GMT functionality. that's why I voted for the 312.

Meter is the wrong word. It is really just a simple indicator which turns from red to black when the watch requires winding.
Cheers

I wanted to get the 320..but could not wait..and the 312 came along..but I am happy as I am not keen on the Luminor GMT and prefer the Marina...
other than that..the PR is a nice touch...but I love my 312
