Fit of GMTIIc vs 16600 SD
I bought a V-series SD last year and love it - so much so that I am wanting to add to my Rolex family. There is a good deal on a 2nd-hand V-series GMTIIc that I am thinking of going for (I've been mulling over this model for several months), but I have never tried one on in the flesh. What are the main differences in the wearability / fit between the two? From looking at photos, the GMT seems to have a larger face, a wider bezel, a wider bracelet and a larger crown. I am assuming the head is less thick than the SD and this, along with the wider bracelet, may give it a snugger (less top-heavy) fit on the wrist. Or am I way off the mark?
I was at Baselworld two weeks ago and was not overly keen on the new ceramic models, so thinking I might as well jump for the GMTIIc. Thanks. |

I own both watches.
The GMT IIc seems to be larger and, in fact, the dial has a slightly larger diameter, but the watch has less height. Both watches are about the same weight, and wearability is very similar for me. The SD is my daily beater and gets much more wrist time (almost 100%) than the GMT IIc. Why? I like the classic look of my SD, and, frankly, I dislike the "supercase" of my GMT IIc, I simply cannot stand it how much ever I try to. Regards to Scotland |

The caseback is a tad flatter on the IIc which might (depending on your wrist) affect how it wears, but IMO proper fit is a matter of sizing the bracelet correctly.

Thanks Steubi and Mike. I appreciate it.
I used to live in Switzerland as a child Steubi, and my Dad is still there. A beautiful country! |

I have both, the gmtIIC case overall is much slimmer than the sd because the crystal is flush with the bezel and case back sits pretty flush too.
As a result the case sits alot flatter on my wrist and maybe gets more dirty that way. The thick crystal of the sd adds to the effect of a small face. They are both similar in weight but better distributed in the gmt with the solid middle links, where as you know with the sd the weight is mainly in the watch head, you can feel the difference. The clasp on the gmt fits more central due to a minimum of 4 links on the 6 oclock side. One thing about the sd with no cyclops allows me the appreciate the beauty of the dial just that bit more. Despite their differences.....I love them both.... |
