Yeah, so I was wrong to think one watch would do. How much should I expect to pay?
Ok, so you were right, it was silly of me to believe that I would be content with just one, so the hunt has started.
Here is my shopping list, and what I'd like to know is how much I'll need to squirrel away. What is a reasonable TRF price for each one? 1. Yacht-Master 16622 SS/P in half-decent condition, with box and papers, but preferably not like new, since it is going to get used, and inevitably damaged. I'd even accept a ding or two in the case. 2. Yacht-Master 169622 SS/P like-new with box and papers. It would be nice if it had no name on the warranty card. 3. Submariner 16610LV, preferably severely scratched and dented. I intend to put it on a rubber strap and use it for work where my 116613LB is seeing a little more damage than I am happy with, so obviously cheaper is better. I don't really care if it has a box, papers or even a strap. All the watches I have seen for sale here have been in excellent condition, unless they are vintage. Is it difficult to source watches in less than perfect shape, or is it just not done because it is normally not worth it? Is it correct to assume that I'll most likely be getting the best prices in the US? |

Uh-oh, looks like there's one more addition:
4. Explorer II 16570 with white dial. (Only problem is, it is sort of similar to the YM, and I'm not taking that one off.) |

It might be difficult to get a beat up, paperless LV. The watch started life as a collectible in most peoples' minds, and I have yet to see a neglected one.

You're more likely to get the best deal from one of the US sellers here on TRF. Maybe you'll find someone in your neck of the woods, if you post in the WTB section.

I was assuming as much, but on the other hand, there must be people that have bought it because they liked it and used it, and managed to devalue it a little in the process. I guess what I meant is that worse condition is better, I can't pay for BNIB.

The wait is killing me, it feels like I already own them all, I just can't look at them! (But in reality I need to sell a car before I can afford them. Anyone want a 2009 C30?) |
