Blue Ceramic WG Sub (116619)

Hi all,

I'm considering a purchase of this rather pricey sub and before I dive in (no pun intended) I'd like to ask you experts a couple of considered questions to assess your opinion.

1) Would a 2010 model have any mechanical difference to the earlier released 2009 model?

2) Given the latest release of the SS/ceramic models (with Parachrom Blue hairspring) do you think that.....

a)......there will be an adverse effect on the value of the WG version? Have Rolex shot themselves in the foot a bit on this one? (The SS and WG are very different markets of course but even so.) .

b) .....there may be an updated WG version to re-distinguish it from the more mainstream SS models.

I am getting the 'correct' discount from my AD but I'm not sure whether it is better to look for a used 'as new' model and save myself the inevitable thump of depreciation or even just stick to the SS model (although the real kicker for me is the blue on blue which of course is not available).

What do you guys reckon??

The WG Sub is beautiful and unique - Rolex have not created a WG GMT IIc, for example. No changes between '09 and '10 and it has had the PB hairspring all along. I very much doubt that Rolex will change this model any time soon. Imho there is too much of a price difference between the SS/TT and WG/YG models for them to impact upon each other in terms of value (I assume you mean resale?)

Having tried it, I love the heft and the fact it is more subtle than a full YG model. I also like the blue colour and how it changes so much under different lighting.

Just wonder whether the Blue color in the WG model is the same tone as on the TT GMT IIC Blue dial model.

Do you mean TT Sub? (new ceramic model) - there isn't a TT GMT IIc with a blue dial.


I think that the TT Sub and WG Sub use the same blue... but I will check in person to be sure...

My sincere apology, I think I lost focus when typing the previous message.
Yes, you are right, I am referring to the new TT SUB C. The reason I asked is that I already owned a TT GMT IIC and I am thinking of getting the TT Sub C Blue dial as well. Think of it, the Blue dial is so unique that only the Sub has it on the TT and WG models.

Thanks for your infor, I agree they should be the same color on both models.

I've read a lot of threads about the (New) Blue, the (Smurf) blue.. Some people like it others don't... Well it's a matter of taste.. But I am quoting here my opinion as I am a proud owner of the TT model and I've compared the [3] of these Subs at the AD.. All have the same Blue.. [LIGHT] is the main factor that changes the tone of this wonderful blue.. So please don't trust your LCD screens judging this color.. But here's a comparison..

... This also apply to the new (Gold Green) SS Ceramic Sub.. I didn't like it the first time I saw the Basel pics. .. But I guess it will be a wonderfull color that matches so much the Steel model.

1) There is no "model year" for your watch... All WG ceramic Subs are identical mechanically and cosmetically...

2) a. Unlikely.. As you say, the WG and SS are different markets.. Besides that, the SS does not come in the blue, only the WG model does..

b. Again.. It is already blue.. can't get much more different than that...

I love them all. Sadly the solid YG and WG models are too expensive/worth too much to consider as an every day watch though for me.

I was at the AD 4 days ago looking at this very watch. It is simply EXQUISITE!
Now the AD had the TT blue ceramic and the WG Blue ceramic and the Rolex Manager was quite adamant that the blues are somewhat different. I unfortunately am considered color challenged and I was unable to tell. I can say they looked different from each other but I am unsure as how to explain it. I think it is UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS on the WG and I did not care for it on the TT ceramic sub. I actually purchased a M series TT sub just so I could have the "cobalt blue" dial

I think it looks best with the Serti-Dial...(diamonds as the hour markers) i'm not too big a fan of having diamonds on a watch...but it really really really really suits it!

Just got the wg sub with Serti a couple of days ago. Truly beautiful and got a fair old discount aswell

My local AD managed to get me in the serti version to look at and I simply couldn't say no!!!!

It sounds like the OP thinks the WG 116619 didn't have the Parachrom hairspring.

It has it. Starting with the all-gold models in 2008, the new Subs all have the 3135 with Parachrom.

The new blue only looks good on the WG Sub IMHO....I still like the old Bluesy, BEST on the 18Kt gold Sub. Close second is the TT Bluesy.

The white gold would be great but is probably too expensive for many.

Personally, I would love to see Rolex bring out a blue sub ceramic in stainless steel...I think it would be a big seller (I will start saving now in anticipation!)

I'm not shy on a watch purchase or two (ahem) but I do try and act with a bit of sense when pulling the trigger.

This is without a doubt a head v heart thing. If there was a SS Sub with the blue combo, I wouldn't hesitate. There is no question that the White Gold is a special piece, but is it really worth the premium for what is essentially the same watch mechanically? I'm sure this is applicable to all watches made from precious metal however.

Ultimately my hesitation is that as soon as I walk it out the door of the AD, the depreciation will likely be an amount close to a new SS sub.

I guess it's unavoidable and its just a question of put up or shut up!!

I think that as a 'keeper' and at the right discount, the WG Sub makes sense. If I thought I would ever flip it, then I simply would not buy in the first place.
