Fake sub LV posted as real

Hi everyone

Aside from this form I like to poke around on facebook and often check out the Louis Vuitton group on facebook. Well today I saw the following post and picture .

My new baby. I know it isn't LV, but it goes well with it. Don't you think?
50th Anniversary Edition Rolex Submariner (green bezel). I love it!

So after I read the above post and read all the posts from this guys friends and strangers about how lucky he is and how great his watch looks etc...etc... a part of me felt ill becuase it really looks like he thinks judging by his reactions that he feel the watch is real and paid a good deal for it.

I sent him the following PM.

Hi David

I hope you do not mind me asking where did you purchase this watch. I am sorry to say but it appears to be off from the Sub LV produced by Rolex. A few things I noticed different are as follows. Polished centre links as your watch has are not on this model the sub LV would have brushed centre links. The date magnification for Rolex watches larger then yours plus the crown guards are not quite that flat they would cover most of the crown. The size of the font is a little large as well and it looks like you have the rehalt engraving however your bezel is the dark green one that was offered before the rehalt engraving became available on this model.

I just thought you should know about this. If you need a second opinion on this then I suggest you visit a local Rolex authorized dealer to have them take a look at your watch.

OPps my bad the green may have been lighter in colour before the Rolex rolex rolex ingraving. This guys bezel however is way dark. Oh well whatever I think we all can agree the polished center links gives it away.

Perhaps however I thought not because the guy in not trying to sell it. He is only showing it off so that lead me to think Rolex general discussion.

Hi Peter,

If you can get a closer picture that would certainly help

Center polished links are not on the LV :-) sounds a bit on the dodgy side.

I think it might be but the mods on that group would pic it out as they are Louis Vuitton fans like us Rolex fans and fakes as far as Louis are concered are not tolerated.

I am probably the least knowledgeable person on this forum, but those crown guards are not even close to standard. You are right about the dark green too.

Not that I know off . It tends to be waxed leather polished to a good shine .
My wife doesn't like LV , too many fakes about The problem is she prefers Hermes and that is more expensive . I should insist more by saying there must be many fake Hermes about too .
She claims that she can spot a fake Hermes from a mile away by the way people carry them ...

Not sure I just found out that my Burberry wallet is made out of PVC in other words plastic coated. Not too impressed considering I spent over $250.00 for it. I think Louis though uses only leather but I could be wrong?

Try buying a wallet at LV for 250 USD , I guess that would get you a key ring at the most .

I had my eye on a basic 6 card monogram LV wallet. On the web-site it was 305.00 USD. MY burberry was 249.00 plus tax CAD and it went up to 288.00 CAD plus tax. Burberry uses that PVC on most wallets and purses, bags etc... Seems wrong to me? for the prices they charge.

I am going to New york in June and will be stoping by the LV to check it out. They do go high in price for most wallets. Over 500.00.

I wish to god I never seen this watch on facebook. This is the coversation I just had I feel so so sorry for this guy.

ME:
Your watch is a fake and here are the main reasons

Polished centre links do not come on the sub LV.
The date magnification for Rolex watches are larger.
Crown guards are not quite that flat. They are meant to protect the crown and for that reason cover most of it.... See More

If you disagree then I am sorry you got taken. Only an aurthoized Rolex dealer can you be sure you bought a real rolex watch otherwise you take a big chance and yours I am sorry to say is a poor copy.

Him:
I will check it out. I hope that is not the case.

ME:
I have this same watch (Sub LV M serial) and have been studying Rolex for the past few years. I am very sorry to hear you feel it is real. I suggest you take it to an authorized dealer but if they suggest to send it to Rolex do not do it. Rolex will not send it back to you. I am lost for words? I can only assume you did not buy it at an authorized dealer???

Him:
I'm going to remove the photo while I get it checked out.

ME:
Again I am sorry David.

Him:
I do not assume anything at this point. (real/fake) I do not have nearly the knowledge you do. I will take it in and have it examined. I only hope that is not the case for obvious reasons... but do not assume anything. Thanks for the info.

He took down the photo from the group.

I feel so bad for the guy. I would not be able to sleep if it was me.
