In your opinion what's the most collectible Rolex Model of the last 20 years and why?
GMT's? Daytona's? Submariners? DSSD? etc....

Honestly, I'd say any stainless steel sport model. They've all become pretty collectable over the last 20 years. Heck, someone even wrote a book about just this topic.

I think your new Zenith. They are not easy to come by with papers. You did one hell of a buy. I was going to jump at it and was on the fence and BAM!!! You bought it. I am glad it is someone that seems to appreciate it.
I am torn between buying that Zenith or a 1680 meters first. We will see what happens. I also want to re-power my boat with 3-300hp new generation Yamahas. That will set me back $75,000!!!! That's is another reason I haven't jumped at something. Sorry to get off subject, I wanted to congratulate you on your purchase!

Most collectable? The red sub, milsub, or double red seadweller, to a lesser extent the 3186 GMT II. The iconic watch of the last 20 years is either the Sub, the GMT II Pepsi, or the Datejust.

Probably a Zenith, GMT II Pepsi, or the LV.

I think LV will be collectible in the next 20 years... not now though... considering it has 7 years production span until the new one released soon, the black dial LV may become interesting in the future.

16520... The Zenith Daytona is a classic, iconic, and still rare in the wild. I recently had mine posted in the FS section but withdrew the listing as I just can't part with it!

The Zenith daytona is already well sought after as of now, we don't have to wait for 20 years
I am going for the Yachtmaster!! Like the Milgauss, YM is not a firm favourite among Rolex lovers... and we don't see too many YM in the wild compared to the Sub, DJ, SD or Daytona... but who knows once the production ceases and the craze for YM comes 20 years from now |

Well if 20 years is the cut off
Then some of the mentioned ones like Red Sub and DRSD don't apply as they pre-date that. I would suggest the Zenith Daytona, probably white dial as the most collectible. The LV might become one in the next 20 years but one might want to know the number actually produced and the good people at Rolex SA won't say. Also, if the new Milgauss doesn't sell well and production ceases it might be the one to have for future collect-ability. Points to ponder at least.

Yachtmaster II.
That red headed step child will be GOLD in 30 years time. Everyone will say, "I don't understand why it was never popular? It is so unique, a masterpiece movement, so unlike the other common Rolexes available at the time, I would have thought it would be a big seller, etc..."

I think you are right. That watch is greatly under appreciated. It is distinctive.

Leopard Daytona. I base that opinion on watching Antiques Roadshow. Invariably, the most coveted item is the one everybody hated when it first came out. Therefore, nobody bought it, it was discontinued and subsequently became rare.

Tiger's Eye face on the 18038 Day Date in bark finish with aftermarket diamond bezel...Actually I go with the 1960-80's Milgauss.

I'm going to say the SS/platinum Yachtmaster, just to start a trend (and to keep my watch's resale value up).
I think it's the only Rolex watch that combines stainless steel and platinum. Others with platinum are, I believe, white gold. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Off topic...how about a white gold/meteorite dial Yachtmaster? That would be awesome! |

I would say S/S Zenith Daytona. All other sports model, you can easily buy all over the place.
For me, the 16520 is the modern grail. |

Submariner all the way. As Rolex is the inventor of the modern dive watch. Vintage of course, double red. Then there are the Zenith Daytona's........argh.....this is hard.
