Which form of media to you rely on most for the news?

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch severly undersestimated/ignored the importance of the internet on this issue which resulted in his own demise. The networks have more or less fallen by the wayside. CNN was always a reliable source for me. Then came the much venerated Fox news network, which IMO has tarnished the television news media by showing us just how bias ANY news organization can be. So "who do you turn to" for "fair and unbiased reporting"? My vote goes to The NY Times or Washington Post. What say you?

Sadly (or maybe not) its forums set up like this that I get most of my news.

Maybe its good though, you get a "random" sample of people commenting on a news story so you get a broad range of thoughts and opinions.

People are required to post the link of where they got it so I can follow and see the source. But I never really go straight to NYtimes.com, I usually get all my news stories through the different communities I'm a part of.

I'm amazed how much breaking news I hear on TRF first.
I'm an avid NPR listener.

I used to be an avid newspaper reader long ago in the UK, but then mr Murdoch took over and, well it was just not news any more!

Now I do not read any newspapers sadly as most seem heavily biased either to the left or to the right and in the proccess forget to actually report the news in a factual way.

My daily check of the news here in Canada is BBC first, then CNN and then CBC, though CBC is terrible in updating news and has the annoying habit of putting sports stories as headlines even when there is a major news item on the boil.

I still think, for all it's faults good old Aunty Beeb is the News source of choice for me, it is intelligent, on the whole not biased (well not as biased as say Fox which is pure fantasy and absolutley nothing to do with news casting!) and updated very quickly. It also reports a great many stories that just do not get covered in North America but are globally important!

Have you watched CBC News Now? I find their reports more up to date than any of the other conventional (CTV, Global, CNN) broadcasters.

Radio, then web. I work out in the field all day and usually have talk radio on. It's a good way to keep current on news, sports, etc. I love and still have a newspaper delivered every day, but the fact is, the news is old by the time I get it. I like it for sports columns, puzzles and comics.

Unless an event is really out of the ordinary, I try to avoid the news. There are many sad and/or frightening events that indicate how out of control this world can be at times, e.g., senseless murders, accidents, terrorist attacks, etc. Frankly, I'd rather hear of events that show individuals in a positive light who are helping humanity. This is one of the reasons I generated a thread with a focus on achieving.

NPR mainly. No commercials, just facts and news. For tv, BBC news
and PBS MacNeil Newshour. Much less false excitement/controversy
and news-as-entertainment.

If you think about it, can you get just the news read to you on
FOX/MSNBC anymore?? And proper reporters! Proper reporters
do not get strange nuances in their voice when they speak.

Mountains out of mole hills is what these specialize in. I'm sure they
are still going on and on exaggerating and effectively 'glorifying' that
rather low grade attempted bombing in Times Square.

I am a news junkie. I am so bad, I get alerts sent to my phone (via email) from several agencies.

While Fox and MSNBC do have theirs obvious biases from opposite ends of the spectrum, I do refer to them in addition to credible agencies so that I get a feel for how their representive constituents think (or will soon think).

I read Aljezeera and BBC for the similar reasons.

For listening, I prefer the NPR format.

For watching, I tend to lean towards the more sensationalized reporting.

Al Jazeera for me. Thankfully they just began broadcasting on television in Canada just yesterday but their web site is fantastic too. AJ reports on all the news from around the world in what I find the most unbiased and comprehensive manner of any of the news services available.

Yes, I find Al Jazeera a lot more professional and gives 'hard' news
without the provocative opinion based entertainment brouhaha found
on other cable news networks. But I only get to see it sometimes when
traveling. They kind of remind me of the BBC of old, before BBC moved
to becoming more CNN-like. Sad they can't get proper distribution here in the US.

The BBC world service. I gave up expecting much from the US outlets a while ago. PBS is pretty good though. I'll also check in with the FT occasionally.

BBC online for me - I find newspapers are too biased or hysterical (the Daily Mail being a prime example), and TV news reports don't tend to be in enough detail

As I wrote in a previous thread I started, I find I am MUCH happier when I generally avoid the news. However, as an educator it is my responsibility to stay informed and generate informative class discussions.

NPR's All Things Considered has been a wonderful source of information; after that I rely on the internet. However, the liberal and conservative bias (depending on the site) is so strong that I am skeptical at best of anything reported.

A small pigeon lands on my boat every now and then. The letters strapped to it's leg are from a sweet couple stranded on an island somewhere. I quit getting news from them when my fishing pole got hung on one of they're pesky "message in a bottle" hobbies. Some lady named Amelia Aerhart or something. I told her to quit writing me if she didn't have anything new to talk about.

I'm stranded, I'm lost, my plane ran out of gas, I'm hungry, come get me, I miss home, I, I, I, Me, Me, Me
