Rolex, good watch, out of reach.
I will never own a Rolex in my lifetime most likely, but I do think they are good watches. Would I like to own a real SUB, absolutely. I wish they'd bring back some of the models that would run on batteries for an intro Rolex.
What do you guys think? |

I think if they would be easy to obtain, you'd have less satisfaction owning one.

Well, with a bit of careful saving, a Rolex isn't that unobtainable, especially if you look at the second hand market. Welcome to the site, you'll soon catch that Rolex sickness

It's not the brand of the watch, it's the joy of owning a nice mechanical watch that will last a lifetime, so I am not a fan of the whole battery idea.
Honestly, you can put money aside and pick up a nice used sub and enjoy it for life. Prices are really not out of reach for anyone with a good, steady job, it's just about priorities. You can find a nice no date sub for around $3000, that is not a bad price for a watch that will last you a lifetime and maintain a solid resale value if you needed cash. I truly wish you the best, start saving now and you will find one soon enough. Rolex is a mass produced, assembly line brand these days. There are so many subs in this world that if you look, you will find a great watch at a great price.

I commend to you Samuel Smiles treatise "Thrift"
http://www.amazon.com/Thrift-Samuel-...5&sr=1-1-spell As true today as it was in the 1800's. Here are a couple of reviews. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars Be Thrifty and Buy This Book., August 18, 2007 By Pacific NW Reader (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Thrift (Paperback) I came across this book (an original copy) in a used bookstore years ago. It is one of the best purchases I ever made. The sound advice, and the wonderful stories illustrating the value of thrift are so helpful, and I return to them again and again. The consumerist, material world that we live in makes it difficult to keep living a thrifty lifestyle. It seems that we are constantly swimming upstream in our efforts to live below our means in a society that does not value frugality, thrift, saving, or denying ourselves in any way. This book is a wise antidote to all the salespeople, the marketers, the advertising literally everywhere trying to entice you to spend your money rather than save it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in saving money, getting out of debt, and becoming a finer person. Report this | Permalink Comment Comments (3) 4.0 out of 5 stars Common sense is timeless, January 11, 2010 By Travis Greer (Colorado Springs, CO USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: Thrift (The personal finance classic!) (Kindle Edition) I was on the Dave Ramsey plan 2 years ago in an effort to turn things around for myself. Of course, one of the things you have to do to be a true Dave Ramsey fanatic, is to save money so that you can pay down your debt. So I didn't have a lot of extra money for reading and the library is fairly long drive from my house. So I got this little book for less than a dollar. I was very impressed with just how much of it really does ring true for today's modern society. Mr. Smiles is indeed a literary ancestor of Dave Ramsey. You should know that this book was written very long ago. And there are some things that have changed. The author refers to "penny savings banks," things like saving a dollar a week, and etc. But it's still very easy to adapt to what he is saying. Needless to say, a dollar back then, bought way more than a dollar does now. The gist of his advice, and Dave Ramsey's, is to avoid debt. Always save. Live within your means. And work hard. Common sense stuff, but it's fun to read about how people have always had problems with taking on too much credit debt. Looks and works great on my Kindle. As for me, yes, I worked hard and finally became debt-free! Freedom! :)

BS. Out of reach is a frame of mind... if you want it bad enough you can save for it.

Like verything in life you need to set a goal and follow a plan to get there. Even if it takes 5, 10 or 20 years it will still be worth the wait. Sit down and figure out what you have to do to save for one and then just do it. Failure to plan is planning to fail.

it took me about 30 months putting a little on side each week to get my GMTII. Its doable if you really want it. Its only 4k, use your tax return, or instead of buying a 20k truck, buy a 16k truck, dont drink overpriced starbucks, there are TONs of ways to save 5$ a day and save the 4 grand.

and bought my Sub Date cash. I could have bought it at anytime but this way it was more of an challange, I now have a sub that would have gone up in smoke otherwise and I feel healthier now. If you really want it, you will get it.

A good used sub is $4k so if you put away $5 a day you should have one it 2 years. How does that sound?

depends how old you are mate???....that is how much life you reckon you've got ahead of you...when you look at $5 a day as posted above...for 2-3 years.....it's just about priorities....if you have responsibilities other than this then fair enough..
Good luck..you'll get lots of good advice here.

Earning something I consider "unobtainable" makes ownership much sweeter.

It would be a better world if Rolex watches were cheaper and more people could enjoy them on their wrists.
