111 vs 112 ??
You guys helped me decide on the 111 as my next watch...and am totally satisfied with that decision(watch has not been purchased yet,my source is looking for one now)...is the 112 my next logical step in the event i can't find a 111 in the condition and price i want??
I know the main differences are the second hand and the 112 is approx $500 less expensive, and the 112 appears to come with a black instead of calf leather band....but are there any other differences to speak of? Movement wise are they both similar? Im kind of movement-knowledge challenged...I think the 111 has an in-house movement(i hope this is right). Should i wait for a 111? or could i safely add a 112 to the list if i can live without the seconds hand? Thanks again! |

If you don't care about the second hand, consider the 111. If you don't care about the transparent caseback, consider the 000. It has the PAM logo on the Sausage Dial.

I do like the transparent case back and the sandwich dial...these are very strong points to me,the second hand is not that strong of a point! I like the second hand, but i could live without it.
Bill, its your pictures that started all this, so im expecting your help!! |

Simply put they are the same watch, minus the second hand on the 112.
None of the Luminor Base or Luminor Marina models use in-house movements. They are ETA movements that have been reworked by Panerai (nothing wrong with that). Models with second hands are COSC certified. My pick would be a 111 or 005 (the 005 has a solid caseback). Losing the second hand is a bit too 'base' for me. Cheers

If you like second hand, go for 111, if you don't go for 112. Both winner. Good luck.

Is this helping Chris???
Seriously, 111,112 you cannot go wrong. Just a matter of taste and pricing & availability. I would also insist on all the boxes, papers, and bits. That's just me. |

To me, as a complete PAM outsider, the 3rd hand adds just a tiny bit of flair to the 111. In a good way.
I like the brushed look of the 177, too, but am nervous about the titanium's scratch resistance. To be fair, though, the polished steel case of the 111 makes me nervous, too, but slightly less so. Oh, for a brushed steel case 111. |

to me, i want the the small second hand to tell me that the watch is still running. and i want the display back so that i can stare at back (movement) as much as i do to the dial. LOL
and of course, the sandwitch looks fantastic, especially when viewing the dial from an angle. it adds an extra dimension to the dial. that's why i went with 111 |

Go for the 112 E-F-G painted dials, more historic ;-)

I was in a similar situation.
I went for the 112 as i think it looks just that little bit cleaner and more classic than the 111. Regarding the seconds hand - you don't need it. Being late for meetings is usually a better indicator that your watch has stopped rather than hoping you might notice a seconds hand.

I would go for the 111 since the second hand tells me that the watch is working!!!

Faced the same dillema, when i first lusted after a pam11 none could be found for love or money.Decided to go for the IWC spitfire chrono which is on my wrist as i type this. When i got the pam bug again in 2008 ,the pam111 was so rare and the premiums were just to much to justify.I settled on the pam112,but soon fell out of love with it.the lack of the seconds hand really began to bug me.In the end i sold it and purchased a Breitling chronomat evolution which is just perfect in every way.Still hanker for the pam111 and hope to have one when funds allow.I suppose the moral of my story is ..PATIENCE!!

Thanks all for your advice,im gonna hold out for a 111,unless a smokin deal on a 112 comes along....i understand needing to have patience but i need to do this in the next few weeks.

My choice is 111....simple, nice... that's what a Pam should be. Logo makes it a little bit busy for me. For me second hand needed, for me to look if the watch is working or not... good luck mate.

Well,at least while the forum was down i got to concentrate on my Pam purchase, and i had quite an interesting time! I decided on a 111 but had some trouble finding one(esp for what i wanted to pay)..so i went for the 112,had a deal locked up within $50 of what i wanted to pay but the the seller decided they needed to call me back when i said i'll take it at that price, then he said they were out and he would find another and call me right back! After 48 hours i called someone else about a 112 and they offered me a K serial 111 BNIB at a lower price than i originally wanted to pay! YAHOO!!
It will be here today! |
