I have just received a mail from [email protected]
Some of you guys must remember the TT Datejust with the 5 olympic rings on the dial I picked up a couple of months ago .
Even though it came with all the relevant documents an coherent story of its origins , we still had to get Rolex S.A. to confirm it . I have just received exactly that , not that they confirmed the story as to why it was made and what happened to it later . They did however confirm the technical facts : A: The dial was made by Rolex itself and was fitted onto a standard 16013 in the Rolex factory in Geneva . B : Somewhere even more important : I seems indeed to be unique . I have posted below the original mail I receievd from the lady in charge of that department . I have blanked out her complete name and Email address ( I can imagine her being flooded by emails requesting authentication of Rolex watches ) to protect her privacy . It is written in typical Rolex language : She does not write that it is a one off , she only answers the question of how many of these were made by saying that there is no other entry in their records about an identical dail ... I have requested to have this letter send to me via conventional post to my home address as well . Here is first my translation , followed by the original email exchange : Dear Sir, We refer to a fax received on the 11th of Mai 2010 regarding a model "Oyster Perpetual Datejust " Based on the information that you have transmitted to us and after consulting our archives , we can say that this serial number corresponds to a ref 16013 made in 1988 and handed over to the Comité International Olympique the same year . Rolex did in deed produce this dial with the Olympic rings for the Comité International Olympic and according to our archives your watch was fitted with it . As to the amount of pieces produced with these identical specs our archives reveal nothing more . ( I am inclined to read .. it is unique ) We however bring to your attention as to the fact that this document cannot be considered as an authentication of your watch We thank you for the interest you have shown in our company .. bla..bla.. Indeed Dave . I also needed that for the next step . When I bought the watch I never had the intention to keep it . The idea has always been to sell it on . I'm very lucky that an icon in the Rolex business saw the commercial potential of this watch and is currently helping me by negotiating to get it in an important auction house . One of the criteria was of course get some kind of authentication of Rolex , this will certainly help .

You looking to retire on this beauty?
I'd never sell it.
Although Juan Antonio Samaranch is popularly acknowledged to have been a slimeball lower than pond scum, so it'd be tough to wear it with anything like pride. |

Must agree on that , he was not particularly known for exemplary ethical conduct nor high moral standards , to say the least .

I just noticed that the Roman 4 is IIII rather than IV. I've never seen something like that. Even more unique!

These are wonderful news Tristan.
Now that you have an authentic Rolex S.A. research/confirmation letter the value in an auction environment could "fly" to stratospheric levels if there are 2-3 Olympic memorabilia bidders. My Insurance value ? $12,000 and maybe I am on the low side By the way Her orthography in French was not exactly top of the class... |

Hey Tristan i realised something also unique by looking your pics.
The country code is exclusively marked on the provided guarantee certificate. There is a country code that is nowhere noted !!!!!! 039 that is. There is no reference page on any site that have this code attached to Switzerland !!!!! http://************/showthread.php?t=8478 http://www.oysterinfo.de/en/detailin...odes/index.php http://www.minus4plus6.com/numbers.htm Universal first !!!!!! Huge Congrats |

It is an Rolex internal code for the special orders . I was told that by the administrator at Rolex Benelux . I believe 061 and 039 are fairly rare . |
