TAG vs Rolex

Rarely people notice the watch I wear, but last evening I had the following experience:
I went to a very good restaurant with my girlfriend and another couple (her friends).
During the meal, the other lady commented - "oh, that's a very nice watch you are wearing, is it a TAG?
"Err... no it's a Rolex DeepSea..."
Noticing my perplexity she added - "Don't be bothered for not having a TAG, yours look like one and I am sure it's a good watch too..."
"Err... thank you..."
During all this time my girlfriend almost burst out laughing...

I've noticed TAG has quite a following outside the U.S.

I used to like them, and in all fairness, they are pretty good watches. My beef with TAGs is that when it's time to upgrade, it seems there is a very soft market for them very much unlike Rolex where it seems there is always someone ready to buy pre-owned.

Have to agree not many bad watches on the market today including TAG,just many brands today are very differently priced.

LOL.... both are nice and look from the marketing side, i believe there should be more TAG advertisement compared to Rolex.... with all the TAG ambassadors for the ad campaign, some people know more about TAG than other swiss brands, maybe....

Tag are beautiful watches.. Sadly, they doesn't hold their value very well.

I agree and my ladies Tag Link is not as durable a watch as my Rolex, plus I have to buy batteries.

I love my Rolex, I only like my Tag.

I was once wearing a PAM 50...and a friend of mine commented "Cool watch..is that a tag"?

Strange considering later on he got a Cartier Ballon Bleu

Tags are quite nice, but as stated, the aftermarket for Tags are kinda bad, hence when wanting to upgrade later on, you lose too much value..

I have always liked Tag Heuer. I think they have some great watches and are reasonably priced too

I think they're priced beyond their level of quality personally.

Tags are decent looking watches in my opinion. Most of their models are reasonably priced which allows a lot of people to buy a decent price and not break the bank.

Never been a big fan of TAG - none of their designs really speak to me, and of the few I've had to handle, the bracelets didn't seem that impressive at all. Omega, as a relatively priced brand, has a much bigger appeal for me

Well, you can always sell the Deep Sea, buy a Tag & pocket a few thousand in the process especially as it looks the same ;-))

On the whole I would agree Tags don't hold their value like Rolex, or even Tudor. However, Tag has done the steady price increase like Rolex and consequently I've seen preloved Steve McQueen Monaco's go for much more lately. I'm sure that's not the case on all the Tag references though.

Monaco....just a classic....not sure about the rest....too 'trendy' for me and don't have that 'instant classic' or already classic feel....

My response would have been something along this line.

While maintaining eye contact, I would've chuckled out loud (not too loud) and said, "Well, I am bothered by it a little bit, after all if I had bought a TAG, I could have paid several thousand of dollars less. But then again, I wouldn't have one of the finest wrist watches in the world . . . but hey, it's always nice to have a couple of extra bucks, right?" (Then roll your eyes, pick up your glass of wine, tip it gently towards the twit and gently take a sip. Oh yeah, that wine will taste really good.)

I think the Monaco is a great watch. I bought a TAG Link years ago and I still wear it from time to time. The quality is great but you take a beating if you ever try and sell it.

I live within biking distance to the TAG USA repair center, and knew a lot of their watchmakers.

They kept one person busy repairing the Link bracelets full time . . .

Tag is a great stepping stone to Rolex! Not that there is anything wrong with Tag--just not in the same league IMHO.

I think advertisements have made well known in the the US. They are nice and affordable so a lot of people are into them. They are also sold everywhere too. Seems like many people I see daily has Tags.

So I can understand non WIS people who see's someone wearing nice watch, they assume it is a Tag because its all they know.

As for Pams, "huh? never heard of them."

I have opened up a dozen or so of the Tag Quartz models to replace batteries, and I personally find them to be cheaply made. I have never been very impressed with TAG.
