Hi guys,

I was influenced to post this thread after reading a certain member's quandary as to whether his new Sub-date has AR coating under the date window or not.

So is there a sure-fire way of determining whether your new model has the AR coating or not?

Not sure this is the answer u are looking for but i thought only the gmtiic and the block case sub right now. If its an old style sub it wont have it.

Yes, you are right on that bit..................but how do you test this with your naked eye?

Its pretty obvious when u see one that is ARed.

Hmmmmmm................guess I'll have to do some kinda comparison between my TT GMT-IIC and other models.

Mmm hard to say. Either that or idk. But my previous subs were very hard to read. This gmt is crystal clear. Kindof like reg definition and hight def TV. Elemetary example however

The one thing I notice is that the magnified date seems a little smaller and clearer than on a non-AR one. Only a very slight difference though

Yes, hold it under a fluorescent light. Under fluorescent lighting, the AR coating will reflect a bluish color. A non AR coating will not. I know it sounds weird, but for those of you with a IIc, hold the watch so you can see the reflection of the florescent lights in the cyclops, and you will see the blue of the lights.

Edit: You can also submerge the watch under water, and the difference of an AR coated cyclops and a non AR coated cyclops is very obvious.

JJ, I took mine to my butcher here locally and he was able to tell me.

You just can tell, it's a big difference between my GMTIIc and Explorer II.

Once you see it with AR it's hard to go back and it makes you wonder why it's taking so long...

Look at it under halogen lighting or some other artificial light source other than fluorescent. If you see more reflection of light than date it probably does not have the coating. Also if the other member has an older style sub I'm going to say nonit does not have it.

I compared my new DJII with my GMTII Coke - I can see a clear difference that the light reflection (especially tungsten) is in purplish colour. While the GMT is clear white.

You can also distinctly see the difference that the DJII cyclops/date is much clearer to see compared to a non AR-ed one.
