to 'L' with it

i've noticed that some dials have the L of Rolex lined up perfectly beneath the crown where as sometimes its lies just to the left of crown center....anyone able to explain any reason (if any) for this

No particular reason, there are many versions of the same Rolex dial out there. Could be the font or the type set as well.

I think it depends on the model. I think the font arrangement depends on the model and/or year..
