Hell yes! It's a tool watch!
Many here may have been following my saga and pissing and moaning that my 5513 is too fragile for everyday wear, trading for this and for that.....Well, today I decided to take it to the ranch and put up some fence in the 40 degree Celsius weather this afternoon. Well, my 5513 got full of sawdust, sweat, sand and even banged it a little and at the end of the day, I took it home, had a shower with it and it looks EXACTLY like it did before I left the house.
My conclusion...My vintage 5513 can take just as much punishment as any other current sport model. Now, I won't do this every day, simply becuase I don't have to, but if I needed to take it on a trip and decided to get dirty with it I would have nothing to worry about. Enjoy the pics! |

For every kilometer fence you do your minute hand will be 0,01 millimeter shorter.
So keep up the good work.

Ive been doing all kinds of work around the house with my Expy II on... just caught myself "painting" of all things with it on... glad its stainless!! other chores include, mowing grass, digging out old shrubs...etc, etc... I dont have any fence posts! I live in suburbia hell! It gets punished though. Yours looks great and im sure it will take whatever you throw at it... even though the minute hand might shrink!

Yeah, but did you get it wet?!
Nice to see you put it through its paces.

Hell yes! I rinsed it when I was finished under the hose, (nasty well water) then when I got home it came in the shower and got all nice and soapy. I have no problems getting it wet, the thing has passed 2 pressure tests in the last couple of years and is in great shape. I haven't modded the dome on it, so it's still good to go.

Good thing you kept it stock, Steve. As much as I like the superdomes, IMHO if you can't be certain of its authenticity you will always worry about its water resistance.

That is a really nice watch, seriously! I would keep it and if you want a modern version, simply get it in addition to that one.

The wife and I bought a home here in Ft Walton Beach... Nice neighborhood but hardly any land! Takes me all of 10 minutes to mow the grass. PM me for more details. And yes, i love the Cherry Wheat! Thanks for turning me on to it.

I will give the 5513 the benefit of the doubt as a tool watch. I own another vintage diver (see avatar) with a nice, thick, domed plastic crystal, and the thing could probably stop a bullet.

Just a thought... maybe the vintage bracelet is actually more fragile than the watch, at least in some ways. Might be worthwhile putting on a new one or a NATO when you start using it as a "tool watch". Just a thought..

You've read my mind... I've actually been thinking on selling my 9315 bracelet and buying a newer one.

Why not just stick it on a Nato when doing hard tasks etc.. and change back to the bracelet when not using it as hard.
I am sure your Sub would look very cool on a Bond Nato, they are cheap to buy and you can have many colors to suit your mood. Give it a try, the worst that could happen is you don't like the look and are about $20 out of pocket. |

I have a gilt 5513 and it is on a 93150 so it really feels secure. I wear it quite a bit and would not be happy with it on an older maybe less secure band. I think it is the ideal compromise when wearing vintage....... |

Just did a trade for a 93150 with 580 ELs, I think this is really the way to go with this type of vintage piece. I love trying to keep the authenticity of the watch by putting a vintage bracelet on it, but there is something to be said for the strength and durability of the new as opposed to the vintage.
