Let's hope they will .. If they do get to the final , Dalip will be allowed to come and see the final at the tennis club with me . If they then actually win , he will need B12 injections the next day

Good luck guys (Spanish fans).

However, I think Germany will take this one. They've played fantastic football so far this tournament, and I must admit (and this is a bit difficult for me, since I'm normally not really huge fan of German football ) that if we look at which team that has played the most fun and enjoyable football, Germany definitely deserves to win this WC.

On the other hand, when watching Spain in this WC, it's like following a handball team. Lets start by passing the ball to the left, pass the ball to the right, pass the ball back to the left side and then of course pass it back to the right again. Hey, lets do that 10-15 times, and then we when we get close to the goal, and have the chance to score with a shot outside the box, we can always pass the ball back to the center field again - and then start all over again...
But seriously, and this is of course my personal opinion, it's incredible boring to watch for 90 minutes. But then again, you don't get any extra points for playing a beautiful game for 90 minutes.

The ball is round, and everything can happen. One thing is for sure though, whoever wins tonight and advances to the final, I'll be cheering for in the final! I'm not gone go in to what I think about the dutch team, but - and again this is just my personal view, I really don't think they deserve to be in the final (and I base that on how they have played in this tournament when it comes to "oh, we thought this was Hollywood" and "yeah we're going to play a really really tough game and do things when the REF looks away, but if you touch us, we're gone get very very cranky...". Just look at yesterdays semi final, and then tell me this isn't correct. Sorry, no intention to offend anyone, but read the blogs, the forums, listen to what people who follows this game daily, are saying about it, and you'll see that I'm not the only one with this opinion). But then again, one could easily argue, that you won't reach any WC final by playing nice...

One thing for sure though, it's going to be one heck of a game tonight! (at least I hope so )

Cheers,
Joe

I'm more then happy to take that walk Tristan.

Personally I'm very happy to see Spain advance, and now they really MUST win against Holland (which have a team in this tournament, that I really don't like - to much foul play and diving, etc).

So vamos Spain!

Cheers,
Joe

The number of foul plays can be measured by the yellow and red cards. We are not at the top. The diving? Are they any worse than other sides? Me thinks not, even if I'm Dutch. But perhaps you can explain to me what you dislike about this team. Technically, not with biassed and emotional dislikes.

I don't want to start a big discussion here, but since you asked me, I will of course try to answer your questions.

No, you're not at the top of the list when it comes to yellow and red cards. But does that say much really? Have you seen the referring this WC? How is it even possible for a guy like Van Bommel to not get a red card against Uruguay? He gets a yellow at the end for arguing with the ref... hmmm

Start by reading this article; mark-van-bommel-is-a

This is nice, isn't it? (Look at his left leg/foot and how he plans it in advance) No foul was given by the ref, and this happened just before the 1-0 goal.

Robben and Sneijder - you don't think they dive/over reacting, a lot that is? I was watching the game between Holland and Brazil. One of the commentators used to play for PSV Eindhoven in the 70's (5 years), and always admits that he is cheering for Holland when he is commentating their games. After 60 min he said something like; "I can't take this any longer, if he (that being Robben) continues like this, I'm going to stop watching the game..." He wasn't as harsh in the Uruguay game (same guy commentating), but I can tell you that he wasn't very pleased with what he was seeing. Many people I've been talking to (and also reading article, blogs etc) thinks Robben is catching up, and doing it pretty fast, with the nr1 diving player in the world - Ronaldo. But then again, perhaps I'm just listening or reading the wrong articles. Sneijer arguably doesn't dive as much, but unfortunately way to much for my liking. It also seems to be very difficult for him to accept, that the ref sometimes actually needs to give the opponents a free kick.

Here's another nice clip from the Holland - Uruguay game;
"REF! I got hit with an ax in my back. Do something!! Oh great, he got a yellow card so now I'm fine and can easily take that free kick myself..."

Sorry, I don't have anything against Nederland as a nation. I usually like to watch Holland play, and I remember the grand old days with Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard etc. It was a great show they put on when you guys won the EURO back in 88.
It's just that I don't like this particular team, and the way they play football (the way they do it).

Yes, one can easily argue that there are other teams out there with players acting exactly the same way. That is of course totally true, but I was talking about Holland in my previous post, because they are the ones in the final and therefore I was commenting on them since they will meet Spain.

Cheers,
Joe

Granted, Germany is on a high right now, but if Spain plays the way they CAN play, they should win. Spain typically has problems with South American teams, due to the nature in which they play the game (very quick forwards and physical in the dirty sense).....While Germany can be physical, they play a cleaner game like most other European teams.

Well, and this is where I see the problem for this Spanish side. Sure, they CAN play a certain way of football, but in this tournament, they haven't done that. They have played extremely slow, and del Bosque clearly favors 2 defensive players on the midfield (even when they have played opponents that they have a clear advantages on). This slows them down even more, and with Xavi and Iniesta (Iniesta who almost seems allergic to taking a shot outside the box, and it's like he wants to see every goal being scored 1 meter from the goal line) not being 100% in top form + Torres, and with the Spanish defensive line who haven't been looking that great really, I just don't see how they can take down this German team. Who in my opinion, is just flying in this tournament.

Stats for Spain,
Goals scored so far = 6
Goals allowed so far = 2

Switzerland 0-1, Honduras 2-0, Chile 2-1, Portugal 1-0 and Paraguay 1-0

Stats for Germany
Goals scored so far = 13
Goals allowed so far = 2

Australia 4-0, Serbia 0-1, Ghana 1-0, England 4-1 and Argentina 4-0

One can't just ignore stats like that.

But of course, like the Uruguay coach said before the game against the dutch. "We can sit here all day and discuss who's done this and that before the game, and who normally should win this game. But at the end of the day, there are 2 teams out there, and thankfully we're going to play a new game which will decide which team advances to the next round."

Cheers,
Joe

Joe, you make very valid points......Spain hasn't been playing the way they should be. I'm just hoping they make the effort that we know they can.

Yeah, but last tournament he also had a clean sheet until - wait for it, yeah that's right; Spain-Germany, and then he picked Germany to win but we all know Spain came out as winners from that one. So perhaps this also means that his luck will end tonight, since he up till today also have had a clean sheet, but for todays game he picked Spain as winners... If one wants to believe in things like this. But I must give it to Paul (yeah that's his name), he for sure is accurate!

Cheers,
Joe

I think that it will be a great game tonight, I think that the Spaniards will nullify the German threat from the left and cover the quick counter attack that the Germans have been so good at in this tournament, I believe that we are due a good game from Spain, they are technically brilliant, Torres is due a couple of good touches and should be watched.

I did dream that Germany would lift the cup, but if Spain play to their full potential they will IMHO be too strong for Germany.

Looking at the Germans, it seems like they will be the force in the footballing world for the next decade after this World cup, a young team that will only get better.

Just for us uninitiated, how in the heck did they come up with the idea that an octopus should be picking the winners ?

The octopus has been right but incorrectly picked Germany to beat Spain in the Euro2008 championship. I'm sure it will be incorrect again

Big CONGRATS to Spain and all their fans around the world!

Germany was not to be recognized today, clearly they had to much respect for Spain. The right team definitely won tonight - and that is always nice to see.

Cheers,
