Man what a tough decision!
I know that at the end of the day, it is my own decision, but I would just love some feedback from fellow members. I am stuck between a new GMT IIc and a M serial Sea Dweller that I can buy and send to RSC for a full service, so at the end of the day I will have to choose between two new watches, and prices are comparable. GMT IIc has the look factor yet is very common, but the Sea Dweller is not too shabby itself and is discontinued. I appreciate any opinion.

I'd take the SD and get it serviced. The iic is just too flashy for me with the PCL and ceramic bezel.

Tough choice Kanger. From your signature though, seems you already made up your mind! I presume the GMTIIc is an "M" or better as well? If so, why the full service?
For me, I'd probably lean towards the SD. I like the heft, no cyclops, and its discontinued. Also, it'll probably be tougher to find a decent condition as time goes by. The GMTIIc is here to stay. Good Luck & Happy Hunting! |

The GMT's versatility wins for me.
I bet when this poll runs it's course the decision won't be any easier. |

Tough choice indeed!
IMHO you can't go wrong with either. But since I've had a fantastic experience with my SD, I'd say go for it. A BNIB II-c is something you can grab for he next 10-15 years, but the 16600 will only get more difficult to get in as new condition as time goes by.

I'd go with the GMT-Master IIc, unless you are buying for investment / rarity sake.
The Dweller is rather spartan looking, and I dislike that it doesn't have any physicality to compensate for the lack of the cyclops.

I think the GMT-Master IIc is more versatile - good choice.

What if the green writing & green hand on the GMTII C are replaced with Red next year? Can you imagine the wailing and moaning of WIS ;-)

For me the SD came first then the GMTIIc..... I guess if I was forced to chose, the GMTIIc would be my choice!!

This question epitomizes the concept of a 'no-brainer'. The SD is iconic and...
irreplaceable. Anyone who voted for the GMT, give your head a shake.

Based on your watch activity while on the forum and your age bracket, IMO the M series SD would be the best way to go. It won't need service for a few years and you can always get a GMTIIc down the road. The SD is a classic!
On the other hand, I'm an old fart, so if it were for me, I would go right for the GMTIIc |

If money will be about the same, and bezel/gmt functionality is really not an issue, I'd go with the new watch especially if it is the most comfortable to wear. I would not let the discontinuance issue of the SD/4000 factor into my decision, compare the two side by side and buy the one you like the best, then wear and enjoy.

The only SD for me is the 1665 as the SD you are referring to has the smaller hour marker dial.
So I would go for the GMT as an all round watch as stated above and for the fact it has the new clasp and maxi dial. The watch works really well and has all the waterproofness you are likely to need.

Hi Kanger,
its not a tough decision. While i love the 116710LN I originally was looking for the SD. Grab it while you can! I just hope it was treated with love and respect. |

For one thing the watches have two distinct functions, so if function matters, you should by the one that fits your needs.
If you need a dive watch or if function doesn't really matter, I would go for the SD. It should never have been discontinued and is bound to be a classic. |
