Well I strolled into the local AD today to look for a 16610 sub. They had one last new one in stock for the usual $6k, and one coming in on trade that is 2 years old in supposedly excellent condition (haven't seen it yet). They said it will probably have a tag of $5k or maybe a hair under. So would it be worth saving a grand and buy the used one if it's in great condition or go ahead and get the new one while still avaliable? What would you do in my shoes?

Myself would buy the used one if the price/condition was right the 16610 changes since 1988 hardly worth a mention.The two year old watch will have all the slight changes since 1988, SEL bracelet,LEC crystal, and some very minor Rolex fonts.Although the 16610 is now out of production there are far too many in this world must be well over a million .So IMHO it will not any difference whatsoever what the case date stamp was to future value if you are into that sort of a thing.And when you buy new you will take a hit on value as soon as you leave the AD of around $500 if you pay full retail.

X2. If its in excellent condition with a great price tag, I'd pounce on it. Keep in mind, the AD probably has more wiggle room with the pre-owned vs. the new (if any).

Welcome to the Forum, it's a great place to hang out. There will always be used Subs (16610) around and many in nice condition (?) however the supply of bnib ones will soon dwindle since it's always been a top seller.

I guess it a matter of personal preference and budget. If you are a used car person instead of a new car buyer, then save the $$ and go for the used one. A late model, such as a M serial should in the upper $4k range. Go for whatever will satisfy you and remember there are always great deals here on the forum for new and used models.

Buy a used one from a reputable dealer on here like David SW. You should be able to get a used one for at least $1500 cheaper and you won't be able to tell the difference.

i'd also look at the sales corner on the forum for its price is usually better.
