Best country to buy a Rolex?

My work requires a lot of travel to different countries.

So my question is this: In what countries would I be able to expect a significant drop in price? I know I can get a great deal here with a trusted seller (I got my GMT from David! ) but where else should I look? Where else can I not afford not to look?

Thanks.

You have to make your currency work in your advantage : Rolex importers fix the prices in the local currency . At the moment it is interesting to buy with USD in Europe .

Agree that Europe might be the best deal at the moment especially Greece but its swings and runabouts with currency at the moment. And if you can get away with the tax duty on return you might have a good deal. But without doubt IMHO the best deals are still from the various in forum sellers.

If you want to buy brand new from an AD then you can't go past Greece. ADs are struggling big time and happy to offer hefty discounts. In Athens you also get a massive 23% VAT refund once you leave the country!!! Couple that with the weak euro and you are looking at some seriously cheap watches. Definitely worh checking it out...

Euro isn't that weak anymore. 1.28 - 1.32 in the past few weeks.

Greece is still interesting though given VAT refund and potential discounts related to struggling economy.

Not in Canada! Here's an example, a new DSSD with taxes is approximately $12,100 cdn whereas from a TRF's member a mint preowned one is approximately $7,500 cdn.

$12,100 cdn at the current exchange rate is approximately $11,600 usd.

Well, while I agree on taxes, exchange rates and weak economies; I differ on the 'best' place to buy. Let me explain: because of business, I travel to duty free and tourist destinations like St Thomas, Barbados, St Marteen, Cozumel, Roatan, Cancun and so on. While prices are good/great in some cities, I have a trusty AD in TX from which I have been buying for over 15 years. Their prices, but most important, their customer service is out of this world. They beat any and all ADs and make my dreams come true every time. My answer to your question: develop a relationship with the seller, he/she will be your best option. In my case, getting one if the first 118238s available in america

(sorry, posted before finishing typing), having a 2 week lead time for a SS Daytona and similar for my sub (2t) with a fair price beat everything. So build that relationship, it will always pay off

I've always noticed that the prices in FL are pretty good...I've compared prices in tourists areas such as Bahamas, Mexico, but prices in FL are comparable, if not a bit cheaper..

Spain - good deals and plenty of stock

I just returned from a visit home to Barcelona and walked into 2 ADs to find a stainless steel daytona - more for curiosity than total committment to buying one. The first had one (more than one in fact) and offered to sell to me no problem (meaning no need for a long BS relationship - if I could pay I could have it, which is nice!). The second one did not and was a bit rude and arrogant with their response, saying that I needed a long term relationship and I can't just walk in from the street, etc. - interesting considering my understanding is that this particular AD is struggling now. Anyway, here was the deal - 7,505 Euros, less 13% VAT returned upon leaving for the US. At an F/X of 1.28, it would be $8,357 - and this was for the new, random serial number, fresh from their safe still in the clear plastic box Rolex ships their watches in, never worn, never touched, white or black dial! I can't say that this is the definitive best deal in the world but it sure sounds like a very good price by any measure. For any of you interested, PM me and I will give you the name of the AD and the salesperson I dealt with.

A lot of opinions and suggestions here but only one number so far. So how about posting some actual numbers here so we can compare deals? Given that I can get 30% off on a ss dj 116200 with no tax in the us, I feel like the us might be the best place.

I got a good deal from my AD for my ceramic sub in canada. HINT (Cheaper than what you guys are paying in the states even with taxes) but perhaps i should have gotten my brother to pick one up while he was in greece. Oh well i'll go next year and pick up something else.

If you are in North America (US/Canada) then US is the best place to buy...Otherwise I would say buy where you live.

What about importation taxes and customs? I understand if you never leave your country to find a way to get it tax free but if you travel a lot aren't you taking a risk of being asked about your watch and it's authenticity/if you've paid taxes on it. I once was travelling with a lot of camera equipment and when i returned i was screened and they went through everything they wanted to see receipts of my equipment i told them i've had these things for a long time i never knew i needed to travel with the receipts. They let me go but still......

Rani,

As a NZ citizen there's an exemption on your own personal jewellery (and clothing) purchased overseas and bought back with you into New Zealand.
Probably unique in the world.

Can't speak for other countries.
