Serti Speck Driving Me Nuts

Just noticed the speck on the center top of the gold piping around the sapphire baton at 9:00. I have only had the watch a few days. Under magnification it looks like a nick, not dust. Could it have left the factory this way? Is the repairable and any opinions on the cost?

thnx

I would return it. Where did you get it?

Reaching out to seller now. Seems like a decent guy. I am new to Rolex. Is this repairable? Seems like it may be a simple repair. Wondering how this could happen. It is a factory dial.

Was it described as 'Near Mint"? I think the seller may have a hard time taking it back because of a mark that is visible with a loupe.

I would talk to the seller anyway. But I don't think that this is something that a good watchmaker couldn't fix easily.

Thanks. Just to clarify the mark can be seen without a loupe and you don't have to look too hard to see it. Glad to hear this is an easy fix. Looks like the gold piping needs to be replaced.

Is that even possible? On a ring, sure, but on a delicately finished watch dial? I know what the RSC answer would be. New dial. $$$.

Well the gold surrounds are very thin and quite delicate could be just a tiny flaw in the gold.

Depending on how the watch was described, I'm not sure that's something that I would take back. If it is visible with the naked eye at a couple feet maybe.
If it's a dent, I doubt its repairable. It's so fine I'm not sure how you could do it w/o damaging the dial, even working under a 20x binocular scope. It might be worth a try. If it was lint or a bit of dirt it would be an easy fix.

Hi Mike, I didn't notice if you said the watch was new or not. But, if it is, by all means take it back to the dealer for repair. If you bought it used, depending on the terms of the sale, you may just have to live with it. It's a VERY nice watch though, congratulations!

Its a Rolex one would expect the highest standards, because thats what they are in the buisness of delivering.

When it doesn't happen, do us all a favor and ask that it be corrected. I think the combination of their hard work and our demand that they meet or exceed our high expectations will help to maintain this tradition of excellence.

I agree with you Dan, if we let "flubs" pass, we'll see more and more of them. Good point!

True if new, but this is preowned, so Rolex isn't going to claim responsibility for it. Unless it's still under warranty, and even than they may not if the watch has been opened.

Because it is preowned does not justify a defect on the dial. The problem is you bought it without noticing it then that is your problem. He can say that you should have taken a better look at it. Unless it was bought over the Internet.

It is a unique mark like a flaw in a diamond that will allow you to always know that is your watch. Probably no help but I would just leave it alone. Seems everytime I get super picky about a small blemish the fix brings even more problems...

It's probably a small dent but it shows up because it reflects the light differently than the shiny surface surrounding it.

It would bother me, too.

Too much money for it not to be perfect. On the outside, I could live with it. But on the inside of the dial, I'm not so sure. If it was advertised as new or mint, I would bring it back.

Return it...and buy mine! lol. Seriously, if it bothers you, which it sounds like it does, exchange the watch for another.

Thanks for the input. Bot second hand on the internet. It is in warranty so will bring it to the RSC. If they fix it great. I am a bit paranoid and although I was told no one cracked open the case who knows. I guess the RSC can tell?

Watchmakers/techs usually leave codes on the inside of the caseback. If they "signed" their work you're probably SOL. Either way, lets hope it's changed for you!
