If he's going to stop in at shops during the marathon I suspect it will be a 10-12 Hour run.

47th st (between 5th and 6th ave) has got tons of gray dealers with thousand and thousands of Rolex watches.
Kyle L has a list of other gray dealers all around the city. There's this place on 57th st between (6th and 7ave) it's called Plaza something, I think you can get a good deal and a used Rolex watch.

If you are talking about Watch Plaza, then I disagree. They wanted $1400 for a redialed Seamaster that i could have gotten for $300 with an original dial. They also didn't let us out the store. The owner tried to keep us buy something too. My aunt was looking and they would let us leave. There are alot of boutiques around 51-59 and 5th avenue. the jewelry district is also around there. You could try Aaron Faber on 666 fifth avenue, a little overpriced though. Have fun!

I'm not sure about the name, there are tons of watches in the window. A couple of years ago, after some hard haggling I bought a 1680 (red serial) for $2800.

100% agree those guys are bad news!!! They tried to push and push and push and old sub on me which clearly had a bust main spring and when that didn't work they tried to force an IWC on me.

There's a thread about vintage/gray dealers in NYC. If you PM Kyle L, i'm sure he'd be happy to send it to you.

My experience is that nothing comes even close to the Sales Forum on TRF when buying a preowned "ROLEX" - Reliable dealers and great loyal owners.
You might want to make a deal ahead of time on TRF and get it shipped to a local US address in NYC.

I live in NYC and visited the Grey market stores (popularly known as Diamond District) so many times and the prices are always high on pre-owned Rolexes. On top of that, if they don't see the cash in your hand (guaranteed buyer), they are not going to even let you try the watch on.

Other brands, I am not sure.

Thanks for those helpful tips guys.I will definately check out some of those places.Prices ( even if high by US standards) are bound to be less than in the UK .Maybe I will treat myself to one after the race as a personal gift to me .
It is my first Marathon and I couldnt imagine a better place in the world to run in.
Thanks again .

Be careful when shopping on 47th St. Do your homework and familiarize the watch you're looking for. Inside and out.
